Warwickshire's openers have done well to play out the first 20 overs.

Rob Yates is looking good on 18 not out while Dom Sibley is unbeaten on 19.

Crushing, but a fantastic knock all the same. He goes, caught at mid-off for a career-best 91.

Notts lead by 418 and aren't declaring any time yet.

    Moores c Croft b Wells 97 (Notts 272 & 283-6 v Lancashire 168)

    Devastating!

Tom Moores falls three away from what would have been his third first-class century.

Luke Wells tempts him with a short one which he skips down the track to and slaps to deep mid-wicket.

A brilliant innings comes to an end off 154 balls.

Middlesex continue to pile on the runs against Sussex at Hove.

Robbie White has just brought up his fifty with Middlesex on 551-4.

Derbyshire are rallying a little against Leicestershire. Brooke Guest and Anuj Dal have put on 78 for the sixth wicket to take them to 134-5. They still trail by 394 though.

Earlier Kent thumped Worcestershire by an innings and 56 runs.

  9. Division Two updatepublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 7 September 2021

Northamptonshire are still searching for one more wicket to bowl out Surrey.

The visitors are 169-9, leading by 250. Gus Atkinson and Amir Virdi are blocking out well for the visitors so far.

Meanwhile, Durham have prized away another Glamorgan wicket as skipper Chris Cooke edges a Paul Coughlin delivery behind to the keeper.

Glamorgan are 164-6, 242 runs behind Durham.

The 150-partnership comes up as Tom Moores (81 not out) drives a full one for four.

He and Lyndon James (78 not out) have been brilliant, neither have looked like getting out at any stage today.

    Notts' lead is 365.

Ooooh Muhammad Abbas thinks he has Dom Sibley (five not out) caught behind.

Huge appeal from him and the Hampshire slips but the umpire shakes his head.

It's all gone a little tense at Edgbaston.

    Warwickshire 116 & 10-0 v Hampshire 89 & 322

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Keith Barker was always a very reliable sort of player in his 10 seasons as a Warwickshire player.

A consistent wicket taker as well as a handy run-getter down the order, as befits a true sportsman who was actually more renowned as a batsman rather than a bowler during his junior days with Lancashire, when he was also still pursuing a career as a professional footballer.

So it's a bit of a frustration for Bears fans to be on the receiving end this week.

In only his second trip back to Edgbaston since he left, Barker took 5-43 in the Warwickshire first innings, then followed that up by top scoring with 75 in the Hampshire second innings.

Now the powerful left-armer has the ball in his hand again - and the Bears have another five sessions to make 296 to win. Openers Dom Sibley and Rob Yates will resume on 10-0. But does Barks still have another big part to play in this match?

  16. Robson falls just short of Haynes recordpublished at 13:00

Sussex v Middlesex 518-4 - lunch, day two

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Sam Robson's mammoth knock was finally brought to a close this morning, as he skied Jack Carson to Sussex skipper Tom Haines at mid off, but not before he reached his highest first-class score.

The former England Test opener has twice previously reached 200 and today made it to 251 but, in a match where records have tumbled, he fell four runs shy of Desmond Haynes' record for the highest score by a Middlesex batsman against Sussex.

The visitors will likely bat until close to Tea before declaring, if they are able to do so on a relatively benign surface, and if they do their highest score against Sussex will be in sight - 632-8 declared at Hove in 1937.

Should they make it that far then the highest total in their history will be extremely close and it was also made on the south coast albeit a little further to the west - 642-3 declared at Southampton in 1923.

  17. Warwickshire chasing 296published at 12:57 British Summer Time 7 September 2021

Warwickshire 10-0 (target 296) v Hants - lunch, day three

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM

Rob Yates and Dom Sibley saw Warwickshire through three overs up to lunch, which was the most satisfying aspect of an otherwise irritating morning for the Bears.

They were detained in the field for 26 more overs by Hampshire’s lower order, largely due to a composed partnership between their former player Keith Barker and Brad Wheal.

Playing without any risk or hurry for the first hour, they extended their ninth-wicket stand to 93 before Barker chased a wide delivery from Chemar Holder and chipped it to point.

Their union lasted for 42 overs – half as long again as Hampshire’s entire first innings.

No doubt Warwickshire found that maddening, but over their lunch they might also reflect that the pitch does not have as many hazards as Sunday’s scorecard implied.

There was some slow spin for the apparently tireless Danny Briggs, who displayed an impressive command of length and flight in a near-50 over shift, but the Hampshire batsmen refused to be lured into loose strokes.

He eventually dislodged Abbas, though, to leave Wheal with a career-best score – and Warwickshire to make 296.
