    Warwickshire 111-1 v Somerset

Hearty chants of "YOU BEARS!" can be heard every time Warwickshire find the boundary at Edgbaston.

Will Rhodes (56 not out) is the latest to instigate one with a cover drive off Jack Brooks.

He and Dom Sibley (40 not out) press the hosts past 100 and their partnership for this second wicket too.

  2. wicket

WICKET Mullaney c Duke b Coad 31published at 13:43 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 119-4 v Yorkshire

Steven Mullaney's attacking policy since lunch is brought to an end.

Straining every sinew for his team, Yorkshire captain Ben Coad gets one to lift and his opposite number nicks behind.

Again as Notts look to push on, they have lost a batsman who was looking nicely set.

  3. Postpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Lancashire v Hampshire 79-6

BBC Radio Lancashire's Scott Read mentioned how unlucky Liam Dawson was to be run out at the non-striker's end for Hampshire's fifth wicket.

Trailing through the archives, Lancashire got two wickets in this manner back in the 1990 NatWest Trophy final at Lord's. That day, it was Northants duo David Capel and Curtley Ambrose who were run out in that unfortunate manner.

Lancashire, with their powerhouse One-day line up in those days, won that match by seven wickets.

Half-century up for Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes as his side continue to press on in the afternoon sunshine.

It's come off 102 balls with his eighth four - an impressive on-drive straight back past Jack Brooks.

  5. Boundaries galorepublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 110-3 v Yorkshire

Joe Clarke has come out refreshed after lunch and has stroked three lovely shots to the fence.

It's the sort of form that has brought him seven Championship fifties this season, but remarkably no score higher than 67.

But what he can do, Steven Mullaney can do better. It's four boundaries since lunch for the Nottinghamshire captain, including three in an over off George Hill.

  6. wicket

WICKET Vince c Davies b Bailey 16published at 13:24 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Lancashire v Hampshire 71-6

Two wickets in the over and it's the big one for both sides as James Vince is out.

Just four balls after his partner Dawson was run out, Vince attempts a big drive, but there is a bit shape from Bailey's delivery and it's edged behind where Alex Davies gleefully takes the catch.

A second bowling point for the Red Rose, who are right on top now.

  7. wicket

WICKET Dawson run out (Bailey) 10published at 13:20 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Lancashire v Hampshire 71-5

A breakthrough for Lancashire within ten minutes of the afternoon session.

But it's desperately unlucky for Liam Dawson. James Vince hits a lovely straight drive off Tom Bailey, but the big man gets down to deflect the ball onto the stumps with Dawson just short of his ground after backing up.

That is a cruel blow for Dawson and the league leaders.

  8. Testing restart for Bearspublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Warwickshire 84-1 v Somerset

Ball beats bat on a couple of occasions plus a bit of movement in the air to encourage the Somerset seamers early in the afternoon session at Edgbaston.

Craig Overton and Jack Brooks looking to stall title-contenders Warwickshire's hopes of building a commanding first-innings total.

Tom Bamforth-White: Let's be fair, Essex are still the best red ball team in the country. If it wasn't for a dodgy opening few games and a bit of rain staying away, they would sweep through div 1 like they are with div 2.

Andy Gould: Seeing Northants 60-7 after electing to bat, suggests one of two things... either they are really not very good - or the prospect of batting last against Harmer trumped any concept of how hard batting first in late September is.

As Glenn Speller mentioned a bit earlier, the lunch interval at Chelmsford has seen Essex say thank you to retiring former club captain Ryan ten Doeschate.

The Netherlands international has spoken emotionally in a speech to the crowd alongside his wife and two young sons after more than 18 years with the county.

There were also a few past and present players on hand too to say their farewells, including another big-hitter from recent years at the county.

  12. Derbyshire rattle alongpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Sussex v Derbyshire 125-2

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex at Hove

A good morning for the visitors who having won the toss have scored at just under five-an-over.

A season-best opening partnership of 89 between Billy Godleman and Harry Came (45), was eventually broken by Henry Crocombe (2-25), who then dismissed Leus du Plooy for his eighth duck of the season.

Wayne Madsen and Godleman (42 not out) saw Derbyshire safely through to lunch without further alarm.

  13. Bears profit after early challengespublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Warwickshire 80-1 v Somerset

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset at Edgbaston

Good tight bowling at the start from Somerset's restored new-ball partnership of Craig Overton and Josh Davey, but as the morning wore on, so the bowling rather lost its edge, blunted by a watchful Dom Sibley and a slightly more enterprising Will Rhodes.

All this after Tom Abell won a fourth consecutive toss and decided to have a bowl - a decision for which this September's precedents are no more encouraging than the lunchtime score.

It’s been a good toss to win for Glamorgan at The Oval as they produced a steady session’s batting after some poor form in recent weeks.

Surrey’s seamers allowed David Lloyd and Hamish Rutherford a flying start before they hit better lengths, while three spinners have been used already.

Amar Virdi should have caught Lloyd on 33 off the retiring Rikki Clarke, but made some amends when he trapped Rutherford lbw for 36.

Lloyd reached his sixth half-century of the season as he steered Glamorgan to lunch in the company of Joe Cooke, who had a few nasty moments against Reece Topley before the interval.

Surrey are being led for the first time by Ollie Pope, while Glamorgan have gone into the match with only two front-line seamers on a pitch expected to give turn.

Essex showing themselves to be very much be the "best of the rest" with a devastating morning.

Bowling straight and full has been the key with five lbw decisions, all of which looked plum, giving the umpires plenty of exercise.

A good crowd is in The County Ground to bid farewell to former captain, Ryan ten Doeschate, who is retiring after 19 years with the club.

  17. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Warwickshire 80-1 v Somerset

Decent session in the end for Warwickshire after losing the toss and being put in and then also seeing Rob Yates dismissed cheaply in the early overs.

Dom Sibley (30 not out) and Will Rhodes (42 not out) add another 77 without further loss for the second-placed Bears.

  18. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Nottinghamshire 79-3 v Yorkshire

Honours probably about even in the East Midlands after Yorkshire won the toss.

The White Rose will be pleased with three wickets, but 15 boundaries for the home team have ensured the score has kept ticking over despite the loss of Haseeb Hameed and the two Bens, Slater and Duckett.

  19. Lunch at Aigburthpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Lancashire v Hampshire 64-4

James Vince helps himself to a four and a two off the final two balls of the morning session to end on 15 not out.

But it is very much Lancashire's session. Despite dogged resistance from Joe Weatherley and Tom Alsop in a second-wicket stand of 42, three wickets from George Balderson as Hampshire went from 43-1 to 48-4, changed the complexion.

Run scoring looks difficult, so any score approaching 200 could well be competitive for the visitors.
