Dom Sibley drives a three! I'm shuddering with excitement.

Robin Johnson: The whole of last season was played without crowds, which makes this approach from England all the more insulting and reprehensible in front of paying customers. Absolute disgrace. C’mon NZ, make them pay.

Iain Parr: 56 runs off 32 overs in a run chase is hopeless. Given the sporting declaration by NZ, England are surely obliged to make an effort to get the runs. Poor entertainment. England not serving cricket well.

  3. Eng 64-2published at 39 overs

    Sibley 23, Root 4

It may become a struggle for me to keep finding ways to describe this, I'll admit. One or two are getting restless in the Lord's crowd.

It's all come to a bit of a standstill. England are just looking to survive.

  5. Eng 63-2published at 38 overs

    Sibley 22, Root 4

A single from his 100th ball takes Sibley to 22. When Joe Denly faced 100 balls it was named a Dentury. What is the Sibley equivalent? A Domtury?

Another over with minimal attacking intent goes by.

Nick Henderson: Giving up on this one. Can't quite believe we haven't gone for the win for the crowd's sake at least. First time back in and we've shut up shop. Very disappointing and I reckon I'd find it easier to score runs than Sibley.

Joe Root has just given Dom Sibley a big pat on the behind. The skipper is happy with the opener's work.

    Need 211 more to win

Dom Sibley has a run - a single down to fine leg. There may be a couple of ironic cheers from the crowd which tells you what those inside the ground think.

Joe Root calls for a drink, despite the tea break ending only 20 minutes ago. Are cricketers the thirstiest sportspeople going?

Let's be honest, complaining is what England fans do best. They probably will be.

Charlie: If Sibley is grinding out 20-30 at the Gabba after 100+ balls, there won't be a single England fan complaining.

  12. Eng 60-2published at 36 overs

    Minimum 39 overs remaining

This is around the time we may get a shower or two but the sun has just peaked out. Chris Silverwood is in shorts and training t-shirt watching on. Sibley lurches forward to block out another maiden.

Is it just me or are New Zealand's bowlers a lot less insistent on reviewing their appeals than England's? Southee hits Root on the pad but when Williamson wanders in for a chat Southee signals the ball was drifting down and that's the end of that discussion.

Ben Mathews: In Crawley's 21 innings other than his 267, he averages exactly 20. Surely if he fails next Test he can't play the India series?

Neil Virani: Crawley had a great innings against Pakistan on a road and a good one in Ahmedabad. Otherwise, he's looked an absolute shambles in the last year. I don't know who comes in but he has not justified his place in the team.

  16. Eng 58-2published at 34 overs

    Sibley 19, Root 2

A big appeal from Neil Wagner comes when he hits Dom Sibley on the back thigh. Michael Gough shakes his head but that isn't quite the conclusive evidence of a not out as it once was.

Wagner signals he thinks it was a little high which prevents Williamson from reviewing. Ball tracking has it flicking the very top of the bails.

    It's a maiden to Sibley.

While he was England captain Nasser Hussain would often be seen wandering around the boundary of our village games in Essex near his home. A road of a pitch, runs galore. During one lean summer for England I think our skipper cheekily offered him a game to get his eye in.

Phil Tufnell makes a good point on TMS, reminding us that Joe Root said before the match that he wanted his team to entertaining the spectators who returned to Lord's this week. This approach would seem to go against that.
