New Zealand have shown how good a Test match team they are today. There are times when the ball has zipped around and they've just hung in there. There are times when the ball has done nothing and they exploited that and went a bit harder. The spell when they changed the ball and it zipped everywhere, they had some fortune, but I have been so impressed with their discipline.

Joe Root fizzes in his off-spin and Will Young flicks it to mid-wicket for a single.
Oooh. Ross Taylor could well look to score off Root having been tied up by the seamers and duly tries to chip over the leg side but doesn't get hold of it. Still, it lands safely and that's another single.
Young finishes off with another single.

Olly Stone has just released the pressure. He wasn't consistent enough.

Olly Stone has conceded 42 runs and nine boundaries in his last seven overs.
Joe Root warms up and is bringing himself on.
The camera duly pans to Jack Leach on the sidelines.
New Zealand's slow-left armer Ajaz Patel bowled very well in the first innings. Just saying.
I also reckon going with four seamers in Australia would be an error - you need a spinner to soak up overs in that heat. Perhaps this line-up is more to do with the absence of Ben Stokes.
Young 67, Taylor 25
Super work by Ollie Stone at fine leg to cut the ball off inside the rope.
Lanky fast bowlers back in the day may well have let that scoot over the boundary.
Pace just isn't working on this pitch - Mark Wood sends down an inswinging full ball but Will Young gently clips it away for one.

Readers, he made it! Our marriage is saved! And we're back there tomorrow so I'm not depriving him!

England will be a little bit frustrated, but they'll be saying let's keep the intensity up.

Olly Stone's radar continues to be amiss, a ball that starts on middle, slides down leg and is helped on its way for four by Ross Taylor, who has battled very well to get into the 20s.
Dearie me! Stone follows it up with a much better delivery, only to get the same result.
If he'd missed Taylor would've been plumb. But he got enough bat on it and that's four more. England will be worried his eye is in now after a ropey start.

I've genuinely felt for Joe Root in the last 18 months. It would be interesting to see, even if you take injuries out of it, how many times he's been able to pick his full-strength side available to him. I reckon it is close to zero, due to rotation, people leaving the bubbles.

John Rodway: Good to see Tim Painter being suggested. He will always ensure there is a deep extra cover.

Will Young and Ross Taylor showing good resilience against some probing Mark Wood bowling. Just a single from the over.

The magic run mark that coaches bang on about is 2.7 and England are around there, and they will take heart that Neil Wagner is down to come in at eight in this game.
I want to give credit to New Zealand though, they've fought really hard in this innings.
England have to hang in there - it is one of those tough periods in Test cricket. They'll be thinking two more wickets tonight and it is still pretty even.

Ashley Mallet banging them in with Andre Nail the other end.

Will Young helps a back of a length ball from Olly Stone round the corner for four.
Selection headache for New Zealand for that WTC final against India now?

New Zealand have weathered the storm with that replacement ball and ironically it was probably one of the worst balls from that spell that got the wicket.
Time for a quick break.
Fairly tidy from Mark Wood, just three from the over.
James Anderson will have to wait to snare his man...
