    Pope lbw b 23 (Eng 58-4)

    Umpire's call on height!

As Alastair Cook says, it is the perfect delivery. It pitches, and shapes back in, and hits Ollie Pope, who is on his toes, around the knee role.

It's just clipping the top of off stump and with the new rules, and extra leeway on umpire's call, that is out.

Another start and out from Ollie Pope.

It looks perfect. The dream dismissal from the left-armer, shaping back in to get him lbw.

    Maybe, maybe not, Alastair.

Ollie Pope has been given out lbw by Richard Illingworth.

It could be a little bit high? But my gut instinct was out.

I don't think anyone doubts that New Zealand a really good side, Jack.

But, England's bowling line-up of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood and Olly Stone isn't exactly bad is it?

New Zealand are able to show the mental toughness and character, and most importantly patience, to overcome any difficult periods. England struggle to do that, time and time again.

Classic England fans reaction right now, always overreacting when we do badly and then overreacting when we are on top. Maybe we are just playing a really good NZ side?

Here's how Zak Crawley got out.

This wasn't the wisest review from England.

Joe Root is positively flying now as he picks up three with a drive through mid-off.

Ollie Pope then adds three more with a flick through mid-wicket.

There have been an awful lot of threes in this Test.

Joe Root picks up just his second run with a flick down to fine leg. He's striking at just 6.66 - he knows he's got to dig in for this side.

The Edgbaston crowd are slowly waking up after that post tea-interval slumber.

It's like cricket on fast forward. England are bumping along at nearly four an over, but you can't escape the feeling an edge isn't far away. Champagne batting in front of a lager-fuelled crowd.

    Ollie Pope is flying.

He picks up two through mid-off, before punishing a floaty half-volley from Matt Henry with a beautiful cover drive for four.

A flick through square leg brings him two more. He's up to 16 off 11.

He's got a start again. He's just got to capitalise now.

This is a big innings for Ollie Pope. A lot of people, myself included, like and have praised his tempo and how busy he has been at the crease when he's played Test cricket.

In recent times it has felt like he has tried to be too busy. He's used to dominating bowlers in county cricket, he's got scores of 245 and 131 this season, but now is about him learning it isn't as easy to do that in Test cricket.

He picks up a boundary with a well-controlled steer through the gap in the slip cordon, before almost flicking straight down the throat of square leg. Patience, Ollie.
