Zak Crawley knew he was out there - Joe Root talked him into the review. That's pretty poor from the England skipper to be honest. We've seen in the Ashes in 2019 how important reviews can be - don't waste them.
Root blocks out the rest of the over. He's on one from 22 balls.

Stephen Mayo: Is there a worse top 3 in current Test cricket than England's?
Jack Tanner: Though NZ had slender advantage the Test looked wonderfully poised... But in the last hour England have lost the game.

Ollie Pope is off the mark straight away with a push through mid-off for three.

Joe Root is almost feeling sorry for Zak Crawley and saying 'I'll give you a review'. He just wanted to be kind.

It looked out from here. That looked to be pretty straight.
Crawley lbw Henry 17 (Eng 30-3)
That is about as out as it gets. It's crashing into middle and off stump.
Crawley was just a bit late on it, as if he was hurried by Matt Henry.
England are in a whole heap of trouble here. They are still 55 behind.
Matt Henry has got Zak Crawley lbw...
Joe Root tells him to review. This looks pretty out to me.

Surely with the position England are in putting Lawrence at 5 makes total sense. After a very good first innings and taking a wicket he is clearly in the mood.

Zak Crawley looks a lot more balanced so far today. Before the tour of Sri Lanka he told the press that he lies in bed and visualises the game on his hotel room ceiling.
I imagine he's spent a lot of time visualising in the last couple of days.
This was a lovely shot from earlier.

Re. Bent's crossword (4.00pm) I also need help with this clue "Must move when driving outside off stump" (4 letters) FE_T.
Gary Jones
A maiden from Matt Henry. He has seen a couple of balls keep low since the interval.
Kane Williamson and the rest of the New Zealand players not playing in this Test are making their way to the training area. With no kit in hand though, that suggests some sort of fitness session. In this heat? No, thank you.

Michelle Garland: Every ball described I listen with fear and trepidation. Reminds me of my childhood hiding behind the sofa when Dr Who was on.

Joe Root is off the mark with a flick into mid-wicket for a single. He's standing a couple of inches outside his crease, and then his trigger movement is taking him back. That suggests that this pitch still isn't the quickest.
Edgbaston is quiet at the moment. There's a murmur of noise, a busy noise, but no real singing or atmosphere.
Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
That's Crawley at his best. You need that tension, those nerves, but you've also got to have the instinctive mind and to just react. Don't worry about the edges that have got him out in the previous three innings. So far he has looked a lot better thab we have seen.

Lovely from Zak Crawley.
Superb balance as he leans on a straight drive to pick up four more. That's two of those he's played now.

Four byes!
England will take them however they come.
It was an airy fairy back foot woft from Zak Crawley, and then the ball died on Tom Blundell and ran away.
I wouldn't bet against England being three down before they reach 20...

Bent Nielsen: Can you help me with my crossword? The clue is "haven't got 20 runs yet", 7 letters, starts with E. It is for 3 down in today's puzzle.
Joe Root and Zak Crawley are walking back out to the middle.
They'll both want to be there at close, with England at parity.
They start 67 runs behind. This could be a painful session.
