  • Fire 127-9: B Smith 38, Gordon 2-30

  1. Phoenix 100-0published at 47 balls left

Eve Jones joins the party, scooping Piepa Cleary for four! Verma has made Jones' 24 from 20 balls look like a Dom Sibley epic today but this is very good.

And that's even better! A classic, textbook drive to get the traditionalists purring. Jones can play too.

That little bit of rain has helped the ball skid on a bit and it seems a case of carrying on where they left off for Birmingham Phoenix. Eve Jones is playing just as well as Shafali Verma. She's hitting strong shots along the ground picking up plenty of twos.

I have bad news for any Welsh Fire ultras reading this. The stoppage hasn't broken Shafali Verma's rhythm. Four more!

Sometimes what people don't realise if the old wicket ends aren't covered they can get muddy and slippy. Unfortunately, that's what happened at The Oval yesterday with the women's game. Even when the men's game got under way it was still very greasy.

Is that 'the' Simon Jones? I'm guessing not.

The umpires are on their way back to the middle already. It looks like we're going to be playing again shortly.

The Phoenix only need 42 runs and they have 54 balls to get them.

The players haven't gone to the dressing rooms. Shafali Verma is just sat giggling on the team bench by the boundary edge. She has 61 not out from just 29 balls.

I think the umpires are thinking whether the conditions are favouring one side or the other and that's behind the decision to go off most likely. Particularly if there's a wet ball.

I spoke too soon! There's one or two boos around the ground. The rain isn't as heavy as it was.

    Phoenix 86-0

Verma hits yet another four but the umpires then decide this rain has got too heavy. Off go the players and on come the covers.

We have a bit of time yet but if the players don't get back out Phoenix will win.

The rain is falling. It's not hugely heavy but the umpires seem content to continue for the time being. Everyone is doing their best to get the game on.

It is requiring brilliant fielding like this to prevent Shafali Verma cantering further into the distance in this chase...

The floodlights are on. I have a funny story about them actually. They are kind of a Pac-Man shape and we managed to convince a youngster on the books here at Warwickshire that they were deliberately built that way in tribute to the computer game! Next time I see him I'll float the idea and see if he still believes it.

  16. Phoenix 80-0published at 58 balls left

Rain is falling again. Brollies are going up in the stands and the groundstaff are looming.

The DLS par score is 49 so Phoenix are way ahead of that. They just need to make sure they don't lose any wickets.

There's been some great striking from Shafali Verma and that's a well-deserved half-century. She's shown what a quality player she is.

  18. Phoenix 77-0published at 60 balls left

There's a decent crowd in for this game now and they're seeing a clinic from Shafali Verma. The home fans must be hoping it hasn't come too late for their chances in the tournament. This game is must win, remember.

A great start from the Brimingham Phoenix. I think they have learned that Welsh Fire didn't run as well as they could do in their innings. They have the luxury of being ahead of the game and a getting dot ball isn't as crucial as it might be.

When Shafali Verma is good she really is good. The SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD is waving her bat after another four takes her to 51 from just 22 deliveries.

    Phoenix are cruising it.
