    Sciver c Rowe b Devine 4 (Eng 25-2)

    The BIG one!

Nat Sciver had just got off the mark - off her fifth ball - with a whip down to the fine leg boundary. She looks to whip away her next ball away too, but ends up flicking it to Hannah Rowe on the deep square leg fence.

It was a good catch from Rowe. She had to make up five yards or so, and it was still at chest height and to the left of her.

Right on cue, here is Danni Wyatt being pretty devastating. She wasted no time tonight, smashing the first ball of the innings for a one-bounce four.

You can watch an extended 30 minute highlights show on BBC Red Button at 22:30 BST. They will be on iPlayer afterwards too.

She's a dangerous player Danni Wyatt when she gets on a streak of good form.

She can be pretty devastating when it's her day, so she'll be looking to kick on here after a promising start.

  4. Eng 21-1published at 4.1 overs

    Good cricket from Danni Wyatt.

She nudges into the on-side, and she and Nat Sciver scurry through for a single.

I think someone needs to come up with a new term for "let's rock-n-roll it".

We need to move on from that. Someone needs to break the mould.

  6. Eng 20-1published at 4 overs

If we're completely honest, that is a pretty woeful review from New Zealand. It was a clear inside edge.

Did they get drawn into it because it would have been the key wicket of Nat Sciver? Quite possibly.

Sciver - stand-in captain in the absence of Heather Knight, who is struggling with a hamstring injury - plays out four dots to start.

  7. Not outpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

Good decision from Nigel Llong. There is a very healthy inside edge from Nat Sciver.

It does mean we get to hear Sue Redfern, though!

To the naked eye, I thought she hit that and it was going down leg...

  10. New Zealand reviewpublished at 3.4 overs

Has Jess Kerr got stand-in captain Nat Sciver trapped lbw?

Nigel Llong was pretty dismissive with his not out shout.

That was a lovely delivery from Kerr. She angles it in with the seam.

Tammy Beaumont in the form she's in from the other night is going to be looking to attack that, so she will be disappointed.

But there's so much strength in depth in this England batting unit, there's always going to be plenty of power coming in after her.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.2 overs

    Beaumont b Kerr 13 (Eng 20-1)

Got her! Immediate revenge for Jess Kerr!

Tammy Beaumont was looking to work the ball over the top, through the on side, but misses and the ball cannons into middle stumps.

There was a healthy bit of tail in for Kerr there.

  13. Eng 20-0published at 3.1 overs

    Shot!

Pitched up from Jess Kerr and Tammy Beaumont just bunts it back down the ground for a glorious four.

Sophie Devine bumped that one in short but Tammy Beaumont was so early on it, she cue-ended it.

I think she may have overestimated the pace of the pitch early on.

  15. Eng 16-0published at 3 overs

Sophie Devine was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers in the first game of the series on Wednesday, conceding just 24 from her four overs.

She again starts tidely, with just four runs and a leg bye from her first over.

The England players in the squad have had a really busy summer, both with the international and domestic schedule, there's an experience now of playing under pressure with eyes on them.

New Zealand will have been really disappointed in how they performed the other night, they've not had a great build-up to this, but they're a proud nation and will be desperate to put things right.

  17. Eng 11-0published at 2 overs

At the toss White Ferns captain Sophie Devine spoke about wanting her side to bowl a tighter line tonight. They offered England far too many width balls on Wednesday.

Jess Kerr does that superbly in the first over, conceding just a single down the ground after that first-ball boundary.

A rather sedate start for England.

  18. Eng 10-0published at 1.2 overs

    Four more!

Tammy Beaumont moves across outside off, and paddle sweeps Jess Kerr round the corner for her first boundary.

She was in scintillating form on Wednesday. She'll be looking to carry that form on.

I miss Sue, and her sternness.

Somewhere Alex Hartley and Kate Cross are missing Sue too.

This has got to be the first game in ages I've commentated on where Sue Redfern isn't umpiring.

She's on TV umpire duty tonight, but she's felt like an omnipresent factor in my life for the past year, a reassuring presence.
