  1. Eng 5-0published at 1 over

Good comeback from Leigh Kasperek with the final five balls of the over seeing Danni Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont picking up a single apiece.

There was plenty of width on offer from Kasperek but the England openers were just unable to thread through the covers.

Well that sends a message of intent.

First ball, down the ground, one-bounce four. No fear from Danni Wyatt.

  3. Eng 4-0published at 0.1 overs

    What a start.

Danni Wyatt comes down the track and smacks Leigh Kasperek's first ball back over her head for a one-bounce four.

This England batting line-up is a really powerful and hard-hitting one.

It's something they've worked really hard on in recent years. Someone like Sophia Dunkley coming in after Amy Jones at the top of the order, she wants to score runs and score them quickly.

That attitude is really going to take England to another level.

New Zealand are going to start with the spin of Leigh Kasperek.

She got smacked for 54 from her four overs the other night - the worst T20 figures by a New Zealander.

The players are making their way out to the middle. Fancy a pre-match stat?

England have lost five of their six T20 games at Hove.

    Sorry for the bad omen.

Maia Bouchier's a great girl. She works super-hard at her game.

She knows exactly what her game's all about for someone so young.

She'll go out there and you'll expect to see fireworks from ball one.

I reckon it is probably fair to say we'll see a lot of Emma Lamb in the England set-up over the next few years. She is only 23, don't forget.

The problem is she opens the batting in domestic cricket. The gap/slot England need to fill is in the middle order. They are looking for a finisher.

Is it fair to play Lamb in unfamiliar position?

That will part of the thinking in the England camp too.

Jack Rule: Definitely think that it is harsh on Emma Lamb to drop her after one game. Her record goes to show how good she is and through no fault of anyone she didn’t get to show that.

It was great that England Women led the way and played the first T20 international and it's nice that 17 years later, New Zealand are the team back here.

The only shame is that there's none of the players from that day still playing today. We're close, Jenny Gunn I think is the nearest to it.

It is fantastic to see Freya Davies back involved tonight.

At just 25 she is the future - alongside the likes of Tash Farrant and Lauren Bell - for England.

They need to start planning for life after Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole where possible, and tonight feels like an ideal opportunity to do just that.

    Tonight is Sophie Devine's 100th T20 appearance.

She has scored 2,476 runs in the format, as a strike-rate of 123.92, and has taken 94 wickets.

    A handy player.

  14. 'We just weren't at it on Wednesday'published at 18:47 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine speaking on Sky Sports: "We thought it was the right choice to bowl first at Chelmsford the other, we just didn't execute our skills with the ball.

"Hopefully tonight we can crack that and restrict England to a few less than last time.

"We did a bit of reflection on our performance from the other night, looked at the lines we bowled and we knew we just weren't at it.

"It's very special to play 100 times for my country, but I also feel very old. When I made my debut, some of our side weren't even born!"

England captain Nat Sciver speaking to Sky Sports: "We were happy to bat so we're not too disappointed with that.

"We weren't far away from our best performance at Chelmsford, but I'm sure we would've like to finish it off a bit better with the ball the other night."

Sophie Ecclestone at seven might be a spot too high.

England's tail is weakened significantly by Katherine Brunt being rested.

Here is Maia Bouchier after she was presented with her cap earlier. How happy does she look!?!

She was named in the original squad last week, but had to miss the opening game of the series after being deemed a close Covid-19 contact.

Bouchier will bat in the middle order, and she's scored a fair few runs for Southern Vipers in recent years. She averages 52 in four Charlotte Edwards Cup innings this season, and 30.66 in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

She scores quickly, and is powerful. She'll be useful if needed tonight.
