    Overton c Bonner b Seales 0 (Eng 285-8

One brings two, as the oft-repeated cricket adage goes.

A brilliant reaction catch at short leg from Nkrumah Bonner as Craig Overton attempts to work one from Jayden Seales off his hips.

A two-ball duck for Overton, who puffs his cheeks out and smiles wryly as he exits stage left. A quite fantastic grab from Bonner as Overton got quite a fair bit of bat on that.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 92.4 overs

    Woakes c Da Silva b Seales 28 (Eng 285-7)

Jayden Seales strikes with his fourth delivery.

The West Indies paceman delivers a snorter of a short ball which just brushes the glove of Chris Woakes who is on his tip toes attempting to fend it off.

Woakes thinks about a review but that brushed his thumb on the way through to wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva.

  3. Eng 282-6published at 92.0 overs

The miserly Jason Holder is tying down one end as he clocks up a maiden.

West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite shuffles his pack and replaces Kemar Roach with Jayden Seales.

Noticed from a few tweets to #bbccricket a little typo earlier with the England score at 2269-6. At least you know I'm not a robot...

Anyway, if you do want to get in touch with your thoughts on the Test by all means do. What kind of score do England need to post here? How will they cope without Stuart Broad and James Anderson a little later?

That was loose from Chris Woakes. He needs to get himself settled after that. He has a Test hundred for England and can bat. He has genuine talent with the bat, but his role here is to support Jonny Bairstow and build an innings of his own.

  6. Eng 282-6published at 91.0 overs

Chris Woakes unfurls a drive to a wider one from Kemar Roach but misses the ball. The England all-rounder breathes a sigh of relief before glancing apologetically at Jonny Bairstow.

Well bowled from Jason Holder. It was a little inside edge which stifled the appeal from the West Indies. That was a millimetre away from the first wicket of the day.

  8. Eng 281-6published at 90.0 overs

Jason Holder, a white cloth tucked into the back of his trousers flapping in the breeze as he attacks the crease, is bowling a decent line outside of off stump trying to induce Chris Woakes into driving.

Woakes has refused to take the bait, and instead uses soft hands to guide the ball down a for a single.

A few balls later and audible gasps from the West Indies slip cordon as Jonny Bairstow is struck on the pad, but he gets some bat on it.

The ground is now bathed in sunshine and Kemar Roach gives Jonny Bairstow a nice easy one as we get back under way after that short rain break.

It is short and down leg side from Roach and Bairstow rides the delivery, using his wrists to simply help it round the corner for four.

England's first boundary of the day.

Groundstaff at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium are now grappling with the aforementioned blue tarpaulin which almost takes off as they try to remove it from the pitch.

Be a good day for sailing in the eastern Caribbean sea.

Anyway, we should be back underway very soon.

What did I say about accurate forecasting at 1:55pm?!

A shower blows over the ground and the players scamper off while a large blue tarpaulin is brought on to cover the pitch.

A few brollies have gone up but this breeze will quickly blow this away I think.

  12. Eng 274-6published at 88.0 overs

Chris Woakes' bat is smeared in cherries, but Jason Holder presents a lovely seam position and almost draws an edge from the Warwickshire all-rounder.

  13. Eng 272-6published at 87.0 overs

Chris Woakes confidently drives Kemar Roach down the ground and England pick up three more. He's back on strike to face the wily Jason Holder.

If England do get past the new ball then West Indies need to come back strongly and react in a positive way. The first six overs need to really set the tone with experienced guys like Kemar Roach and Jason Holder.

  15. Eng 269-6published at 86.2 overs

Kemar Roach drifts into the pads of Jonny Bairstow with this second ball of the day which the Yorkshireman neatly works away for a single and England's first runs of day two.

The strains of Jerusalem from the Barmy Army echo around the ground.

Ben Foakes, speaking to BT Sport: "There's enough in the wicket to challenge the batters. Jonny Bairstow played incredibly well yesterday. If we can get 350 then we'll be in good position and even more so if we can get beyond that."

On his return to the side: "I have been around and in and out so to get a go as number one wicketkeeper is a long time coming and a great moment."

In the Caribbean 300 is the landmark you want to get to. So it was a job well done for England yesterday. West Indies will need to begin day two how they started yesterday and try to take quick wickets.

Now, our friends at BBC Weather don't appear to have a station at North Sound by the looks of it.

It's a long held gripe of mine that cricket fans want accurate weather forecast more than most people so it is a little frustrating.

Anyway, the nearest available forecast is for St John's, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, which is some five miles away from Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Bar the top tropical pitter-patter we should have a clear day ahead. There's a strong-ish breeze blowing across the ground which might provide some assistance to the bowlers.

I'm a Jonny Bairstow fan. He was really disciplined to see off accurate bowling in a tricky situation on that pitch. It was a triumph of patience and technique. He has to lead the way to 300 and as far beyond as possible.

Grit and determination. Not exactly two words you'd have used to describe England earlier this winter, but Jonny Bairstow had it in spades yesterday.

His second century in consecutive Test matches, after a three years without one, dragged England back from 48-4 to a position of some respectability at 268-6 at the close with help from the Oakes trio (Foakes, Woakes, Stoakes).

Bairstow is unbeaten on 109 and still has a job to do to get England beyond 300 before their bowlers get a chance to make an impression.

Welcome to day two of the first Test from Antigua and Barbuda.
