Jonny Bairstow's ginger beard is looking particularly well-shaped today. Maybe he knows the photographers are going to get plenty of shots of him raising his bat today. He leaves his IPL team-mate Jason Holder alone outside off.

It was a good, busy innings from Root, but not a chanceless one. He played second fiddle to Lawrence and then Stokes, but was disappointed to get out missing a straight one.

No batter ever looks pleased to get out, but even with 153 runs to his name, Root is frustrated knowing that a double hundred was there for the taking.
