Well, that just about brings things to a close from day two of the second Test from the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

Those England fans out in Barbados will be toasting Ben Stokes' knock with a few glasses of something a bit later.

My colleague Matthew Henry has filed his verdict from the day's play and described Stokes' emotional and "swashbuckling century" as one in which "the 30-year-old was at his best".

The Test Match Special podcast will be available later here.

We'll catch you for day three from 13:45 GMT tomorrow.

There will be variable bounce for the seamers so England's attack will be able to get a bit more out of it than the West Indies. There's turn and bounce for Jack Leach as well.

It's definitely working for Joe Root at number three. But if a ready made number three emerges he may well move back down to four again. The enterprising way that Dan Lawrence played with Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes to come is a good four, five and six for England.

England centurion Ben Stokes, speaking to BT Sport, said: "You feel pretty good when you get a hundred so yes, it was a good day.

"Joe (Root) and Dan (Lawrence) set the day up yesterday and allowed the middle order to free their arms. We tried to put pressure back on the West Indies bowlers and it worked out well that we got a little bowl at them this evening.

"We know that the wicket is good. The pitch is different here from Antigua because it has a little more carry. It's probably changed a little bit over the last session and half. Our seamers felt they were in the game."

Proper Test cricket. Some spice, some razzmatazz and a bit of old fashioned graft at the end of the day.

Mark Burt: England are bowling decent areas but the West Indian batters look in cruise control. This is going to be a lot of hard yakka.

Whatever the outcome of this Test those who were present at the Kensington Oval today will remember an innings of brutal brilliance from Ben Stokes earlier.

Kraigg Brathwaite and Shamarh Brooks have been stubborn - England will have to prise them out tomorrow.

After two days England will be the happier of the two teams with the runs on the board. West Indies trail by 436 runs.

  10. Close of playpublished at 21:27 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2022

Joe Root has nearly all his fielders in close but Shamarh Brooks is able to keep out a skiddy final delivery froo Jack Leach.

A good fightback from the West Indies after England's efforts with the bat.

    And that is stumps.

  11. WI 71-1published at 26.4 overs

Shamarh Brooks happy to smoother the spin and push Jack Leach's fourth delivery into the pitch.

Two balls left and bowler, skipper and Ben Stokes have a quick conflab.

    Men round the bat.

Turn and bounce from Jack Leach has Shamarh Brooks standing upright and keeping his hands down with a backfoot defensive prod.

Dan Lawrence, with an action reminiscent of the Tin Man in the Wizard Of Oz, is given a token over at the end of the day.

The Essex part-time off-spinner is unable to conjure up any magic, although he draws Kraigg Brathwaite forward and he steers one away.

His penultimate ball is wide to Shamarh Brooks but he's happy to leave that well alone.

Three runs off the over. Six balls left.

  14. WI 68-1published at 25.0 overs

Two slips and a silly point, under the helmet, for Jack Leach.

"Leach needs to change his pace up a little" is the advice of David Gower who is intrigued to see if he slow it down and extract a bit more turn.

Kraigg Brathwaite cuts Leach's final delivery for four. Silky.

  15. WI 64-1published at 24.0 overs

Saqib Mahmood's dazzling white bowling boots carry him to the crease, and he beats the outside edge of Shamarh Brooks' bat with his second delivery with a delivery that clocked 86mph on the speedometer.

He finishes with a maiden and gets a fist pump from Ben Stokes.

18 balls left in the days.

  16. WI 64-1published at 23.0 overs

Jack Leach, long sleeve shirt, is frantically spinning the ball between his fingers as the cogs whir around in his brain on how he will get a wicket for England here.

Kraigg Brathwaite purses his lips underneath his helmet after a front-foot defensive shot from the West Indies skipper from Leach's third delivery.

He then pounces on a short wide one from the left-arm twirler and cuts him decisively beyond point to the boundary.

Next ball Leach catches the edge with one that turned but the ball does not carry to Zak Crawley in the slips.

Six overs now until the close as Saqib Mahmood continues.

A flashing cut short from Kraigg Brathwaite to his second ball looks destined for the boundary but Alex Lees, at backward point, dives to make a superb diving stop.

His final ball really jags back off the pitch but is wide enough not to distrub Brooks' off stump.

Leach seems to be having more success bowling from the Malcolm Marshall end - he's finding turn and bounce which he didn't get from the Joel Garner end.

That kept exceedingly low on Kraigg Brathwaite but he got a thick outside edge which the technology confirms.

    Decision overturned.
