The covers are coming off. So what kind of lead should England aim for? 250? As much as there should be an intention to win this game, they also want to make sure they bat Windies out of the game.

To be fair to the officials, the rain started to fall a lot heavier. There's no way they could have stayed on. But we hope it will only be a passing shower.

Well done to the umpires for staying out there during very light rain - they considered going off. But we were treated to the sight of Colin the Sound Technician sprinting on to get the stumps, only to be sent back again.

  6. Eng 76-3published at 23 overs

    Lead by 172 runs

Crawley swung his bat in frustration the moment Seales took the catch.

Stokes, after his sublime 120 in the first innings, is off the mark with a dab to point.

  7. Eng 74-3published at 22.3 overs

Ben Stokes the new man in. England have two men on nought. Will they change their approach?

    Crawley c Seales b Joseph 40 (Eng 74-3)

Having just played a crunching cover drive for four, Zak Crawley doesn't quite execute a pull shot and the ball loops up towards long leg. Jayden Seales, running in from the boundary, keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a fine grab.

There are some rain clouds away to the east at the moment that we'll do well to miss.

  10. Eng 70-2published at 22 overs

Dan Lawrence is the new man in but, with the players having crossed, it's Zak Crawley on strike. The opener takes three more from the over.

There are a few dark clouds lurking over the Kensington Oval. The groundstaff are hovering on the boundary edge with the covers.

  11. wicket

    Root c Campbell b Permaul 9 (Eng 67-2)

Ah. Joe Root is in shot-scoring mode but a slog-sweep is completely mistimed and finds the fielder in the deep.

The England captain hung back in his crease a little there and was forced to stretch for it. A second wicket for Permaul.

  12. Eng 67-1published at 21.1 overs

Wallop! Joe Root advances down and smashes Permaul over mid-on for four.

A quick Google of unlikely cricket fans brings up some interesting results. Apparently Barack Obama has an interest. I'm not buying it.

Crawley top edges a pull over the wicketkeeper and it races down to the boundary.

  14. Eng 58-1published at 20 overs

One thing you can be sure of with Joe Root is that he won't eat up dot balls.

    Three singles off Permaul.

Pretty sure Darren Pattinson is still the most surprising person I've ever seen at a cricket match.

A back-of-a-length delivery from Jason Holder jumps up on Zak Crawley, deflects off his glove and lands a few feet short of Nkrumah Bonner at gully. Took the opener by complete surprise.

Fuller from Holder and Crawley nudges into the leg side. England run hard and take two. There is clear intent from the tourists this morning, but just the two from the over.

It was an unselfish shot from Lees, playing for the team in a situation which isn't ideally his. The start of his innings last night ensured that the West Indies couldn't force their way back into the game by taking quick wickets, but the shot showed England's attacking intent this morning.

  18. Eng 53-1published at 18 overs

    Lead by 149 runs

Joe Root is off the mark straight away with an edge down to third man.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.5 overs

    Lees c Joseph b Permaul 24 (Eng 51-1)

Dragged to the leg side and down the throat of the fielder.

Alex Lees went for a wild heave in the previous over and failed to connect. This time he does connect, but not well.

A simple catch for Alzarri Joseph at deep square leg.
