That is the Sciver drive! You could almost have commentated that with your eyes close, because you can just hear the thwack of the bat.

  2. Eng 85-2published at 20.1 overs

Shikha Pandey comes back into the attack and a powerful straight drive from Sciver finds the boundary first ball.

There's a sense that England would rather be facing pace out there.

  3. Eng 81-2published at 20 overs

Knight goes for a big sweep from a classic lofted Yadav delivery but completely misses, greeted by gasps from bowler and keeper.

She then finds some turn past the outside edge which brings a similar reaction. It's so slow that as a batter you have to force the pace yourself, which isn't easy on a pitch like this.

I referred to Poonam Yadav's headband making her a style icon, but look at this ...

  5. Eng 79-2published at 19 overs

    Knight 30, Sciver 8

England are going along at just over four an over, setting up a nice platform for the likes of Dunkley, Brunt and Shrubsole to hit out if they get in towards the end of the innings.

That is just the second boundary since the end of the powerplay after nine overs.

  7. Eng 77-2published at 18.2 overs

That's one way to counter the pressure. Nat Sciver comes down the track to Sneh Rana, who kept mid on in the circle, and wallops a four down the ground.

  8. Eng 71-2published at 18 overs

A change of ends for Poonam Yadav and a tidy over brings just two.

She keeps her hair back with a headband, perhaps Chris Woakes actually modelled his lockdown look from last year on her. A style icon.

Lauren Winfield-Hill has fallen hook, line and sinker for the India trap.

It is another start for her, without making the telling contribution.

  10. Eng 69-2published at 17 overs

    Knight 28, Sciver 0

Nat Sciver comes to the crease for England and plays out a dot ball. Lauren Winfield-Hill was very cross with herself there. It was a fascinating passage of play leading up to that dismissal with an intense battle between bat and ball.

    Eng 68-2published at 16.3 overs

    Winfield-Hill c Pandey b Rana 36

    Brilliant tactics from India!

Mithali Raj set a big trap and Lauren Winfield-Hill has fallen for it. She packed the off side with fielders, encouraging Rana to bowl outside off and entice the slog sweep. Winfield-Hill obliges and picks out one of two fielders on the leg side.

  12. Eng 67-1published at 16 overs

The India fans are still making plenty of noise out there with their cheers and various instruments, urging their team on to get another breakthrough. It's Sneh Rana's turn to have a try.

  13. Eng 66-1published at 15.3 overs

Death, taxes and Heather Knight nailing a sweep.

This one was a reverse that was perfectly executed to bring her a boundary.

I think one of the most overlooked problems in the women's game is what to do with your hair when you're batting. Heather Knight and Lauren Winfield-Hill both take some time during the break to adjust their buns, tucking in loose strands here and there to fit under their helmets.

It's a nightmare, I'm telling you. Anyway, Deepti Sharma is going to continue.

England have just been rotating the strike, and are looking to build a partnership.

  17. drinks break

    Eng 61-1published at 15 overs

    Winfield-Hill 35, Knight 21

Poonam Yadav twirls a ball so high - probably two Jhulan Goswamis high - and Winfield-Hill takes the bait with a mighty heave but it doesn't reach the boundary.

    The players take a drink.

I don't know what we think par is, but I am thinking this might be a lower scoring game.

  20. Eng 56-1published at 14 overs

    Winfield-Hill 31, Knight 20

Heather Knight loves to sweep - she's not connecting with them perfectly yet, but gets a few handy singles to the boundary fielder.

It's gone quiet, but England are doing well to accumulate and build a partnership.
