Ishant, feet nailed to the ground, swings at Southee and gets a couple through the covers. When he tries to leave one, Ishant still manages to hit the ball with the toe of the bat. He's playing all the right strokes, but not necessarily in the right order.

You'd have thought Jadeja would be the more flamboyant of these two, but with Ashwin if it's up there it's off at the moment.

Both these players look as if they want to play more positively against the new ball.

Edged over the slips! A big flash from Ashwin at Southee sees the ball fly over De Grandhomme. New Zealand have asked the umpires to look at the ball, too. How odd - it's only a couple of overs old. Perhaps the Kiwis aren't happy with how this one is behaving. It is swinging, though.

Colin de Grandhomme in the field is a bit like a large animal being taken down by a tranquilizer dart.

Boult scurries in, but the line isn't right, allowing Ashwin a tuck off the pads for four. Colin de Grandhomme should have stopped it, but he was groping around on the floor at square leg.

Here it is then, the new rock in the hands of Tim Southee. When it gets driven to mid-on Trent Boult, he inspects it like it's a precious stone. Southee has bowled two full-tosses there. Not the best use of the new pill.

I guess the thinking is that the old ball is still doing a bit, and if Wagner's tactic is banging the ball in the middle of the pitch then it's better to do that with an old one.
