It really was an impressive performance from Jamieson. Here were the two big wickets of Kohli and Pant he claimed early this morning to kick things off.

Kyle Jamieson is the 11th bowler to take five five-wicket hauls in his first eight Tests, and only the sixth since the First World War - after Alf Valentine, Rodney Hogg, Ian Botham, Vernon Philander and Ravichandran Ashwin.

A huge ovation for Kyle Jamieson from the 50 or so New Zealand fans at fine leg. Virat Kohli, meanwhile, is dancing to the India fans’ beat as he emerges for a few practice slip catches.

Jadeja c Watling b Boult 15 (Ind 217 all out)

India are all out as Jadeja tries to turn one round the corner on to the leg side but edges on to his pad and through to Watling, diving yet again.

So, New Zealand's time has come with the bat. Kyle Jamieson finishes with 5-31 and New Zealand took 7-71 collectively today.

Bit of sightscreen confusion, I think, just holding us up here. Trent Boult is using the time wisely, lying on his back and getting some stretches in.

There is a real atmosphere here now. There are pockets of New Zealand fans who are getting louder and louder as the day goes on.

They roared Kyle Jamieson in for his hat-trick ball. Shami drove for four and Black Caps’ fans hands went onto heads. India fans cheered in delight.

  7. Five-wicket haulpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 20 June 2021

    Andy Zaltzman

It's Jamieson's fifth five-wicket haul in just eight Tests. All but one of them have come in the first innings.

  8. Ind 217-9published at 92 overs

No hat-trick for Kyle Jamieson as Mohammed Shami, thinking like a bowler, predicted a full-pitched delivery and has driven beautifully to the cover boundary for four.

    What an over that was!

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 91.5 overs

    Bumrah lbw b Jamieson 0 (Ind 213-9)

And another! Kyle Jamieson is on a hat-trick and gets his five-for at the same time. What a wonderful moment for him.

It was full, straight and absolutely lethal. That's not a ball you want to face first up as a number 10.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 91.4 overs

    Ishant c Taylor b Jamieson 4 (Ind 213-8)

No doubt about this one though, as Ishant just pokes at a rising delivery outside off stump and edges through to Ross Taylor at first slip.

It's that awkward bounce yet again and New Zealand's impressive slip catching continues. Jasprit Bumrah the new man in.

  11. Ind 213-7published at 91.2 overs

Big appeal from Jamieson for an lbw on Ishant Sharma but New Zealand decide against the review. Maybe missing off, too much swing almost.

  12. Ind 213-7published at 91 overs

    Ishant 4, Jadeja 15

BJ Watling pulls out yet another dive to maintain his clean sheet of no byes so far as Trent Boult finds a bit of late swing.

Ishant sneaks a single past cover and keeps the strike.

It's that length that's so difficult to play from a tall bowler like Jamieson, as it was for the likes of Joel Garner, You can see the line, but the length is difficult to work out.

  14. Ind 212-7published at 90 overs

First ball is chipped slightly aerial by Ishant for a single to fine leg, greeted by hands-on-head frustration from Jamieson whose height continues to trouble even the taller batters.

Colin de Grandhomme then pulls out a diving stop at point and Jadeja almost dares him to throw it in by hovering his bat over the crease.

The players are ready. Ishant Sharma is going through some lunges pitchside, while Ravindra Jadeja goes for a slightly more nonchalant lean-on-the-bat.

Here we go, it looks like it'll be Kyle Jamieson to kick things off for New Zealand.

Well, as first sessions go, that was a pretty good one this morning wasn't it?

If this next one if anything close, we're in for a treat.

Will all Test matches from now on, count towards the WTC?

ICC acting chief executive Geoff Allardice on TMS: "As it's structured at the moment, no."

And what about women's Tests - are we likely to see more?

"There seems to be more interest this year from the members in scheduling women's Test cricket, and that's not a bad thing. The ICC's focus is on the global white-ball events, Test cricket has a role but not every country is going to be focused on playing it."

ICC acting chief executive Geoff Allardice on TMS: "We felt the World Cup should go back to a 14-team event from 2027. We're also expanding the T20 World Cup, as T20 has been identified as the format for the growth of the game, especially among associate members. There's going to be a T20 World Cup every two years, for men and women."
