Here are a couple of key moments from that first hour of the afternoon session.

Rory Burns dropping David Warner and Haseeb Hameed failing to run the Australia opener out.

England HAVE to start taking their chances.

Beaten! Cross seam from Chris Woakes and he evades a driving Marnus Labuschagne. That's the first false shot I can remember the right-hander playing in this session.

Time for a drink. England have dragged some control back in that hour - conceding 28 in 12 overs - but they haven't been able to find that breakthrough.

Labuschagne is on his bike practically every ball to Jack Leach.

Can Leach get himself into this match?

  5. Aus 141-1published at 42 overs

    Trail by six

I was asleep when Jack Leach was bowling earlier, but having watched just four balls of this spell I'm fairly comfortable with saying that Australia don't really rate him.

Marnus Labuschagne comes down the track to his first ball and wheels up for a big drive, that goes for a single down the ground. David Warner then misses with a reverse sweep.

Two singles from the over. That's fine, but his first over went for one before conceding 30 in his next two, so let's not read too much into that.

Here we go. A key moment.

Jack Leach, having been taken for 31 from his three overs and hit for four sixes, is back on.

England need him to offer some control.

It has been a tough watch and we haven't even seen Steve Smith yet.

  8. Aus 139-1published at 41 overs

    Trail by eight

Worryingly for England, it feels like the runs are just starting to flow again.

Marnus Labuschagne picks up a couple through mid-wicket, before flicking away to the square leg boundary.

Does he ever look like he's going to get out? He looks even less fidgety and uncertain than a certain Steve Smith for me.

England are playing Australia A and they have left both of their leg-spinners - Mason Crane and Matt Parkinson - out of the team!

Their off-spinner Dom Bess has just taken a wicket, though. The scorecard for that match is here

Shot! Vintage David Warner. Ollie Robinson gives him a little bit width and the left-hander absolutely pulverises a drive away between cover and mid-off and away to the boundary. He's up to 64.

England's first-innings total is almost wiped out.

Sam: Wonder if the pitch invader fancies a game in the slips?

  13. Aus 128-1published at 39 overs

Chris Woakes starts with a maiden too.

England conceded 63 in the final 10 overs before lunch, but they've gained some control back in the 45 mins since the interval, conceding 15 runs in eight overs.

I'll gloss over the fact it has taken them that long to bowl that many overs...

After a pitch invader gets rugby tackled by an absolute entourage of stewards at The Gabba England make a change.

Chris Woakes - who has gone for 23 from his first nine overs - replaces Mark Wood.

Anything that could go wrong has gone wrong. It is amazing how the Ashes does that.

  18. Aus 128-1published at 38 overs

Another maiden for Ollie Robinson, that is three in a row.

He's conceded just two runs in four overs since lunch and one of them was off that Rory Burns drop of David Warner.

Incredible piece of cricket. Hameed could have walked in and took the bails off and Warner would have been out.
