  1. Aus 177-2published at 64.3 overs

David Warner could not believe what he'd done. He stands at the crease, incredulous, and raises a hand to his helmet in agony.

Anyway, England have got Steve Smith to overcome now. He's back as captain and averages 70 when in the role. Not bad.

It was a loose shot from Warner. You got the feeling it would be 'me or you' in that battle with Stokes.

Has Ben Stokes broken this game open?

    Warner c Broad b Stokes 95 (Aus 176-2)

    David Warner is out!!

It's short from Ben Stokes and Warner's eyes light up for another boundary, but instead drills it straight to Stuart Broad's grateful hands at cover.

He hits the ball so hard that Broad actually falls over. And Stokes keeps his foot behind the line!

  5. Aus 172-1published at 64 overs

David Warner is into the 90s and not really looking like getting out any time soon, I should add.

Remember when he scored 94 runs in the entire series in 2019? Those were the days.

Joe Root is back into the attack.

For all the talk of selecting the right bowling attack - do we really think England’s top three would have got to 150-1 had we won the toss? I really doubt it.

There's only one player in front of square on the off side, so Labuschagne hedges his bets, backs off and swipes through the off side.

  9. Aus 169-1published at 63 overs

    Warner 89, Labuschagne 69

A boundary each to the batters, both through the covers, but Labuschagne's is arguably the best of the day so far - backing away to leg stump and crunching it for four.

Australia are scoring much more freely now.

That was one of the most emphatic strokes of Labuschagne's innings so far.

  11. Aus 160-1published at 62 overs

Just saw a replay of that incident a couple of overs ago where James Anderson stumbled in his follow through and looked a bit disgruntled - turns out he swallowed a fly. What a day he's having.

    Bit of extra protein, maybe?

Labuschagne completes the over with a commanding pull shot for four.

  12. Aus 152-1published at 61.1 overs

    Oh, there it is.

Anderson drops short and Warner wallops it to the midwicket boundary. I'll take the blame for that one.

  13. Aus 151-1published at 61 overs

    Warner 79, Labuschagne 61

Sorry, still no wickets to report.

But there was another three runs, the boundary predictably saved by another Ben Stokes chase. I'm not sure when the last actual boundary was, to be honest.

  14. Aus 148-1published at 60 overs

Anderson fields a standard defensive prod in his follow through and takes a bit of a tumble, looking in a bit of discomfort as he stands up slowly - but don't panic, he's smiling.

He looks how I feel waking up in the morning, except he's bowled 14 overs in extreme heat and probably has a bit more of an excuse for it.

  15. Aus 146-1published at 59.1 overs

Anderson beats Labuschagne's outside edge for maybe the 100th time today.

He puffs out his cheeks and flounces back to his mark.

  16. Aus 146-1published at 59 overs

Right, let's have some optimism shall we? Apparently, this should be the best time for bowling, when the sun has disappeared.

It would be a lovely time for a hat-trick. No pressure, Jimmy.

Was it yesterday that England took that first wicket, or today?

  18. Aus 144-1published at 58 overs

Another quiet passage of play as England go back to tactics of trying to dry up Australia's runs. The ball is old, the pitch is flat, the bowlers are tired.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith is doing some jumps and stretches in the dressing room.

  19. Aus 144-1published at 57 overs

    Labuschagne 58, Warner 75

Ben Stokes is a ridiculous human being. Or is he even human?

Having bowled a lot today, he sprints from mid-off to the boundary twice in that Woakes over, keeping them to three each time and hurling the ball like a rocket back to the keeper.

Luckily, he's still smiling by the end of it.

Australia will be thinking about getting through the rest of today without much damage and then keeping England out there for a good chunk of tomorrow, when it's going to be really hot.

The weather gets a bit cooler from day three onwards.
