Before the wickets of Smith and Carey saved them, it was beginning to turn into a disastrous session for England. This Rory Burns incident (he's not having a great time, is he?) pretty much sums it up.
Thanks, Matt.
England have clawed their way back into the game with quick wickets every so often over the past day and a half, but each time Australia have been able to blunt their momentum and get away.
What do Australia need to do from here? Quick runs, declare and get 20 overs at England under the lights?
The wicket has changed the complexion a little but this final session should still be electric under the lights.
Ffion Wynne will take you through it.
Smith had batted slowly but without ever looking in any danger...
This came out of nowhere...
Well, well.
Australia are 390-7.
You wouldn't think they could declare yet but the longer Australia bat the less time England would have to bat under the lights tonight.

Oh what a strange dismissal. Nobody's even celebrating. Isn't that strange, it's as if nothing happened at all!
Carey c Hameed b Anderson 51 (Aus 390-7)
And another! Alex Carey has just chipped a catch straight to extra cover. That ball has stuck in the pitch a little which is probably not good for England later in the match.
They're all walking off for the tea break now.

Stuart Broad's Bandana: Steve Smith misses out on a ton! The captaincy is definitely affecting his batting.
Carey 50, Starc 1
Aggers has just been working out what time Australia would be requiring a second new ball on day three. Optimistic.

He's played very nicely, I've enjoyed watching him bat. He's played freely and stuck to his natural game.
A single to Alex Carey takes him to a very good fifty from 104 balls. Things weren't 100% in Australia's favour when he came in. Even with that Smith wicket they are now.

There has been a mixed reception to Steve Smith being captain again, but he's got good applause from the Adelaide crowd.
Mitchell Starc joins Alex Carey in the middle. A sign Australia are going to have a swing?

He went back a long way and it kept low. As a bowler, I'd be cranky to see a batsman reviewing that.
Smith lbw b Anderson 93 (Aus 385-6)
For once Steve Smith misses a straight ball. For once he doesn't pile on the pain with an Ashes century.
It was umpire's call on impact, closer than it initially looked, but that's good enough give the initial decision was out.

It looked plumb to me.

It did keep low and Smith was very squared up, as he has been a lot in this innings.
