  1. Aus 466-8published at 150.1 overs

Hang on, have we gone back two months? Feel like I'm watching the T20 World Cup all over again.

Jhye Richardson slogs at his first ball and it goes high in the air but plugs in the outfield for a couple.

  2. How's stat?!published at 09:45 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2021

    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

This is only the fourth time Ben Stokes has conceded more than 100 runs in a Test innings.

  3. Aus 463-8published at 150 overs

    Starc 38, Richardson 0

The Adelaide crowd are absolutely loving this. Literally nothing is going right for England.

Stokes looks like he might combust at any moment.

  5. Aus 461-8published at 149.5 overs

    Edge, over Buttler's head, four.

Not sure if he got a glove to it but Ben Stokes looks like he is going to explode.

  6. Aus 457-8published at 149.4 overs

Consecutive boundaries from Mitchell Starc just adding more misery.

The second is nailed past Stokes' head and the umpire has to take evasive action, too.

He bowls an angry bouncer to follow ... and it's called a wide. Harsh. Brutal.

That was up for a long time. He took it well, even though he's saying he didn't see it.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2021

    Neser c Broad b Stokes 35 (Aus 448-8)

Stuart Broad holds on this time, taking a smart tumbling catch as Neser slogs one high in the air.

A very useful 35 from Michael Neser, and a valuable lower order partnership for Australia.

Ben: Why did we ever think Woakes was going to be any sort of threat in Australia?! Looks like the most placid and easiest bowler to face in the world on these pitches. England’s ‘planning ahead’ just continues to fail time after time - 2 years in the making this apparently.

  10. dropped catch

Starc dropped on 22published at 149 overs

    Aus 448-7

Oh, it's harsh but definitely a drop.

Ollie Pope on the midwicket boundary puts in a very good effort. He gets two hands to it just an inch or two off the ground but it's another chance gone begging.

Starting to feel quite bad for England now. It's been a brutal two days.

Australia are picking off a weary England. It's been a roasting hot day. Root might be looking for volunteers to bowl.

  12. Aus 446-7published at 148.2 overs

Woakes drops short and wide, Starc smashes it for four.

    It's followed by a wide.

Something about the wheels coming off?

Technically it is a catch, but he's protecting those fingers after the operation.

  14. Aus 439-7published at 148 overs

    Oh it's all falling apart.

Stokes bowls a full toss that Starc smashes back at him and clips him on the finger - very harsh to call that a drop.

But the next ball is smashed for four through midwicket. Ben Stokes looks a very angry man.

Harry W: I'm not sure I'm ready to watch England bat this morning tbh.

  16. Aus 433-7published at 147 overs

16 from Woakes' over. He's not offered England much at all in this Test.

    I miss Mark Wood.

  18. 6 runs

    Aus 432-7published at 146.4 overs

What a remarkable shot on Test debut! Neser takes a step back and crunches it over point for six!

  19. Aus 426-7published at 146.3 overs

Here we go then. Neser slogs Woakes over midwicket for four more.

I wonder if losing their last review will cost England like it did Australia at Headingley in 2019? Haha.
