England are being thoroughly outplayed by an Australia team who are outstanding at home.
Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner are all in the top 10 batters in the world.
Then they've also got a seam bowling unit who are the envy of the world and Cameron Green now gives them balance that they've been missing.

Eddie: He'll probably go in the first over after lunch but at this point, move Woakes up to number seven and play him as an all-rounder because he's doing more with the bat than Pope.

I wouldn't be surprised if Josh Hazlewood has been brought back just so Australia can more closely monitor how he's doing with that side strain. He may not necessarily play in Melbourne.
Australia have named an unchanged 15-man squad for the remainder of the Ashes series against England.
Captain Pat Cummins and fellow fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will both return to the squad for the third Test at Melbourne, starting on 26 December.
Cummins, 28, missed the ongoing second Test in Adelaide after being deemed a close contact of someone who tested positive for Covid-19.
Hazlewood, 30, was ruled out of the second Test with a side strain.

Ollie Pope was only seven balls into his innings, in a series he's still trying to feel his way into, so I do think that's why he played at that Mitchell Starc delivery he nicked.
He just wouldn't have faced left-arm pace at 92mph before. It's one he would've probably looked to leave later in his innings.
Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner left a lot in their first innings, but they did play and miss a lot earlier in their knocks too.

I am a huge fan of Ollie Pope but you feel he needs a bit of time away. Jonny Bairstow is waiting in the wings so that might be a thought. There will be scrutiny around Buttler too.
Just waking up? England haven't lost yet. They have reached lunch six wickets down.
Ollie Pope was out in the second full over of the day, he nicked off to Mitchell Starc for four, and Ben Stokes lasted almost an hour before he was out for a 77-ball 12, lbw to Nathan Lyon on review.
But since then Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes have batted pretty nicely for almost 18 overs. There haven't been too many scares.
The second new ball is just six overs away, however, and there's a long way to go yet.

I think Jos Buttler has played well. He and Chris Woakes looked in control. The top order will be thinking 'if only I done this, or that'. There is a new ball due soon and they will go hard at England then.

Australia are still only four wickets away from victory. England are battling to survive. Can they save this Test match?

It's been good from Buttler and Woakes, they've gutsed it out. The two early wickets really hurt England though.
The new ball is going to be key.

Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler haven't been too troubled - although the ball is now 74 overs old.
England get through to the dinner break without further loss. They have to bat two more sessions, including one under lights, to save this Test match.
"One more lads" Alex Carey encourages from behind the stumps in the final over from Marnus Labuschagne before the dinner break.
The part-time leggie overpitches one and Chris Woakes clips him through mid-wicket for a couple.
Enthusiastic appeals for bat-pad caught at short leg but Nathan Lyon knows there is no bat involved and is unmoved.
Nathan Lyon gets one to rag and it strikes Jos Buttler on the top of the pad. The England wicketkeeper is struck again a ball later attempting to sweep.
Australia declined to review both with Buttler outside the line.

With six or seven minutes until the dinner break, Steve Smith chucks the ball to Marnus Labuschagne in a bid to break this partnership with his leggies.
He gets one to spin. "Misbehaviour, misbehavior" yells David Warner in the slips before hollering "get another man in there".
Nathan Lyon is bowling darts from round the wicket to Jos Buttler. It's a lot fuller and turning into Buttler, who has handled it well so far.

I thought Jhye Richardson would have been a bit quicker off the pitch. He is not zipping it through.
