Here come the teams, walking out to Gin Wigmore's 'Girl Gang', the official tournament anthem and a song that has been sporadically stuck in my head over the past week or so!

    Time for the anthems...

I think England have been OK since the South Africa game. There was almost a sense of disbelief, they were thinking 'this is not us, we are better than this'.

They are losing by small margins but not playing very well. You look down that team and they have a brilliant set of players. But they haven't fielded well, bowled a lot of extras and have had batting collapses. So they will have been upset but you have to try and forget about it and move on.

The old enemy actually did England a favour last night as Australia cruised to victory over West Indies, one of the sides likely to be battling it out for the final semi-final spot...

India captain Mithali Raj: "We would have batted if we won the toss because it's on the drier side so we'd rather bat first and put up a score.

"We like to be consistent in the things that we are doing well which has benefitted the team. With the sort of experience and exposure this team has, having been in the final of the T20 World Cup and having a lot of players playing in leagues across the globe, getting that experience in use for today's game is very important."

Jack Rule: Has Emma Lamb stolen Lisa Keightley and Heather Knight's ice cream or something? What does she need to do to get a game?

Jack has been banging this drum throughout the tournament. So far England have not heeded his advice...

The good news is that England aren't out of the Women's World Cup. Yet.

Four wins from their remaining four games could see them through.

They would probably end up in a tie for fourth place in the group and, because their opening three defeats have been tight, their net run-rate is reasonable.

But to salvage hope from such a bleak outlook would be akin to a turkey taking pleasure from receiving its first Christmas card.

England captain Heather Knight: "It's a fresh pitch. It might be a bit on the dry side but we want to get out there as a team and try and keep them to a good total.

"We've been really close without playing our best cricket. It feels like today is going to be the day it all clicks. I want to see lots of fight from the girls. We certainly have skill in this team so we are going to come out fighting, keep it simple and do what we do well.

"There's always pressure at World Cups. We are obviously in a position we don't want to be in, but we are still in it. We are going to keep it very simple, ball-by-ball, game-by-game. So today we are going to look to put in a very good performance and show everyone what we can do."

  9. England win the toss and bowlpublished at 00:34 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

Heather Knight wins the toss and they are going to chase as they keep faith with the XI that came up just short against South Africa.

India are also unchanged from their victory over West Indies. That means there is no Shafali Verma.

  10. Will England tinker with their XI again?published at 00:33 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

The decision to replace the out-of-form Lauren Winfield-Hill with spinner Charlie Dean and move Danni Wyatt up to open did not bring the desired results against South Africa but will England really be tempted to twist again?

It seems unlikely Wyatt's chance at the top of the order will be ended after one game but Emma Lamb remains an option and provides another spin bowling option.

Meanwhile, Tash Farrant and Freya Davies are the alternates in the seam bowling department. Katherine Brunt has looked out of sorts so far in the tournament but it would be a huge call to leave her out.

Besides, these kind of must-win games are where she really thrives. Plus, she seemed to have Shafali Verma's number when India toured England last summer.

  11. Welcome!published at 00:30 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

Good morning/ afternoon/ evening! It's another through-the-night effort for those of us in the UK and no doubt it is rather chillier here than out in Tauranga.

However, it is Heather Knight's England who will be out in the cold if they fail to win tonight. They've been involved in three thrillers so far but come out on the wrong side on each occasion to leave their World Cup defence hanging by a thread.

Nothing less than a victory will do as they take on Mithali Raj's India, who have started their campaign with two wins from three games and provide England with another stern test.
