England have been so much more clinical today - taking their chances makes such a difference. I'd love to know what they did yesterday. I know it was optional training, but I wonder if they had meetings and what was said.

  2. Ind 93-7published at 26 overs

Sophie Ecclestone continues and after four tight deliveries Richa Ghosh decides to grab the initiative, driving through the covers for four.

India need plenty more where that came from.

Thanks, Sam. Well, well, well, cricket is a funny old game. England are a team transformed. They are all over India at present and will look to pick off these final three wickets quickly.

  4. Ind 88-7published at 25 overs

Halfway stage in the innings and England could not have asked for more.

They'll want to wrap up the innings quick sharp. I'm off to get a coffee so to take you the next 25 overs (or however many we get), here is Thomas Mallows.

    Vastrakar lbw b Dean 6 (Ind 86-7)

No reprieve this time. Vastrakar lasts just two more balls after the first review. It is a very similar shot that brings her downfall, playing across the line again and hit plumb in front.

Reviewed again but it's three reds. Three wickets for Dean, India seven down.

If that's not out I would be absolutely astonished.

Same again, lbw against Vastrakar, and this time it looks very out to me.

  8. Not outpublished at 02:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

    India 86-6

Henry is bang on. Vastrakar was walking off before Ghosh advised her to review. It was a good decision. She was struck outside off stump.

    India 86-7

Charlie Dean might have a third here, Pooja Vastrakar playing across the line and rapped on the pad. She sends it upstairs after being given out...

  11. Ind 86-6published at 24 overs

The intent is there from this India pair, Ghosh in particular, and when Ecclestone drags a delivery short, the 18-year-old right-hander is on it in a flash and cuts it to the fence.

Much better over for India with good, positive running between the wickets before Rich Ghosh uses her feet and thumps Dean back over mid-off for four.

It's a good shot but England won't mind seeing that. They'll fancy that chances are coming.

  15. Ind 72-6published at 22 overs

Mandhana had decided she could not afford to just sit back and let the England spinners bowl unchallenged. A shot over mid-off for four showed her intent but when she went after another boundary, it proved her undoing. Ecclestone excellent as ever for England.

    It's a good looking scorecard, isn't it?

The England bowlers deserve this. We have given them quite a lot of stick as they haven't always got their lengths right. But they have started so well and left India in a bit of a pickle.

But as excited as those players will be at taking those six wickets they should not underestimate the India batters coming in.

WICKETpublished at 02:34 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

    Mandhana lbw b Ecclestone 35 (Ind 71-6)

The decision is upheld and England have the wicket they really craved! It was umpire's call on impact and crashing into the top of middle and off.

Smriti Mandhana had been trying to hold the innings together for India. With her gone, England have a chance to wrap this innings up quickly.

Smriti Mandhana on the sweep to Sophie Ecclestone, misses and up goes the umpire's finger. She reviews and, in this position, she really has to...

  19. Ind 67-5published at 21 overs

Dean is almost toying with Richa Ghosh. The India teenager wants to get after the spinner but the subtle variations in flight and pace are leading to some very unconvincing shots.

It has been interesting to see how Heather Knight has been setting her field.

Usually when you move out of the powerplay the field spreads, but England didn't do that. Instead they squeezed. At one point they had seven in the ring and just the two boundary riders.
