  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 01:19 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2022

Bismah run out Jones 9 (Pak 11-2)

It seems Bismah is not OK.

She nudges Shrubsole into the leg side, scampers a single before coming back for a very unnecessary second and Amy Jones and Sophia Dunkley combine to do the rest.

My suspicion is that Bismah is OK...

Ooooh. Amin and Bismah have been running really well and quickly between the wickets, but have they gone for one too many here?

    It looks close.

The ground here in Christchurch is in the middle of a public park and when the cricket isn't on, anybody can walk across it.

  5. Pak 8-1published at 3 overs

Brunt offers some width and Bismah Maroof capitalises, slashing it out to cover for three runs.

  6. Pak 5-1published at 2 overs

Anya Shrubsole presents a different challenge for Pakistan's openers, a slower pace but hooping the ball in to the right hander.

Just two singles from another tidy over.

Hopefully that wicket has calmed Katherine Brunt down and settled her nerves a bit. It just takes one spell of bowling to change things.

For the first time in a long time, England have their World Cup fate in their own hands. Two wins in two games and they're through.

  9. Pak 3-1published at 1 over

    Bismah 2, Amin 0

Another loose drive, another edge - but this one flies down to third for two after a scrambling dive from Tammy Beaumont.

Second slip would've had it, you'd think.

As starts go, that was a pretty good one.

  10. Pak 0-1published at 0.3 overs

Brunt had taken just one wicket in the tournament before that - hence the dramatic celebration.

Watching the replay, that was a beauty. Not much the batter could've done about it.

It was a lovely delivery, an arcing outswinger. What a start for England!

Katherine Brunt is on the money straight away. It was a good delivery from Brunt because it forced Nahida to go for the drive.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 0.1 overs

    Nahida c Knight b Brunt 0 (Pak 0-1)

    First ball! The perfect start!!

Katherine Brunt is delighted - she looks to the sky as if to say, "about time!"

Full, straight, a hint of away swing and the Pakistan opener can't resist a nibble, and the edge flies safely into Heather Knight's hands at slip. Just what England wanted.

It's unthinkable that England won't win this game but this tournament has thrown up some strange results.

Heather Knight is full of smiles as she gives her team some last minute words of inspiration in the group huddle.

Pakistan openers Sidra Amin and Nahida Khan make their way out to the middle, Katherine Brunt has the new ball.

    Time to go.

Katherine Brunt could pick up a lot of confidence today. She could tear in and pick up four or five wickets. She is England's best ever bowler and if England were to reach the World Cup final, the one bowler they'd want at the top of her mark is her.

We can't go into a game featuring Pakistan without mentioning the real star of the World Cup - baby Fatima, daughter of Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof.

Pakistan produced a shock win over the West Indies, and came very close to pulling off a victory against South Africa. They are an improving side - England won't (or shouldn't) be taking them lightly.

England have had their fair share of tight finishes over the past couple of weeks and you wouldn't blame them for wanting a pretty easy route to victory tonight.

They just edged past New Zealand in their last outing - here's a reminder of what happened in that one.

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof: "We would have bowled first but now we'd like to put up a score and defend it. We need to assess the conditions and adapt to them."
