    Nissanka c Warner b Cummins 7 (SL 15-1)

Oh. The excitement is shortlived as Cummins wins the battle.

Nissanka goes for another glory shot, trying to play inside out over cover, but miscues it for a simple catch to David Warner running to his left at mid-off.

  2. SL 15-0published at 2.2 overs

Oh lovely! Cummins just strays onto Nissanka's pads and allows him to play a glorious flick over midwicket for four runs.

Pat Cummins replaces Starc to take the third over.

It is just quality bowling from Josh Hazlewood. It is just Test match length and line and he doesn't do much with the ball but he is just relentless. It is easier when you're six foot six and the ball is coming from that height though.

  5. SL 11-0published at 2 overs

Hazlewood gives absolutely nothing away until the final ball as he just drops a bit short. Perera doesn't time it at all but it still trickles away for the first boundary of the match.

Josh Hazlewood, who is in stunning form, is taking the second over.

I would agree with Alex. Particularly as the tournament progresses with the traffic that these pitches have had on them with the Indian Premier League before this.

I'm not sure about Australia. They haven't been in form at the top of the order - Aaron Finch hasn't scored runs for quite a while. Only going in with one main spinner in Adam Zampa doesn't feel quite right to me either.

  9. SL 6-0published at 1 over

A decent start for both teams. Australia will be pleased that there's a bit of early swing for the seamers, if they can make the most of it.

As much as I agree with the 'Drunken Master' that the Sri Lankan national anthem is long, it's also an absolute belter of a tune so I have no complaints.

Drunken Master: Dear Lord! I boiled the kettle, made a cup of tea from start to finish, started drinking it, was on my second biscuit and the Sri Lankan national anthem was still going on!

  12. SL 3-0published at 0.3 overs

In the air! But safe - Perera drives loosely and the ball just flies over the head of backward point for two.

He follows it with a big swing and a miss almost like he's playing golf instead. A sign of his intent, perhaps.

This does feel like a significant game. Whoever wins this game would take a big step forward.

    And we're under way.

Bang on the money from Starc, full and straight, but Nissanka pushes it into the off side for a quick single.

The anthems are done and we're all ready to go. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera are first up for Sri Lanka, and no surprises with the new ball - it's Mitchell Starc.

Every single game in these tournaments is huge. We're all looking forward to Australia-England on Saturday but this is still a huge game because if you slip up in tournament cricket it can become crucial down the line.

Charith Asalanka was Sri Lanka's hero in their victory over Bangladesh with 80 not out. They comfortably chased down 171 - but how will they go about setting a target today?

"It is a very good contest against Australia but we have to perform to our standards and the boys are prepared for that and hopefully we'll go well in this game."
