You can't ever count Australia out of a contest. I don't think this shoots them above England and Pakistan, who are looking red hot, but they're one to look out for now.

Australia captain Aaron Finch: "That was a really good performance. They got off to a flier and Adam Zampa in particular dragged it back in the middle for us and allowed Mitchell Starc to have an impact. All of our quicks were good. It felt like they were going at 15 an over during the powerplay - the ball was flying a bit - but we felt like it was a good wicket. It was nice to chase that down.

"We knew we had to be a little bit calmer with the ball. It was just a reminder to stick to our plans and not the emotion because that isn't when Australia play their best cricket. They are such a dangerous side. It was a nice performance.

"It is nice when you get a couple in the middle of the bat early and we knew the spin would have an impact outside the powerplay. We knew we had to take a little bit of a chance on the pace bowlers."

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka: "We got the start that we neeed but in the middle phase we were not able to capitalise. Missing out really cost us.

"The batsmen that get set need to continue to 15 or 16 overs. We were 25 or 30 runs short.

"In the coming games we need to capitalise with the ball in the powerplay."

Australia won this game with the opening batters - they really took advantage of the powerplay.

Australia's victory, and an early one with 18 balls to spare, was made possible because of the lightning fast start that captain Aaron Finch and David Warner gave them.

They put on 70 for the first wicket and from there it felt like a matter of when Australia would win, rather than if.

Finch made 37 off 23 balls while Warner made his half-century since April in making 65 off 42 deliveries.

If Australia's victory over South Africa was a scramble over the line, this was a leap.

That spell from Zampa not only put the brakes on but took wickets as well. The quicks backed him up and finished it off. It proved a manageable total to chase.

Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who took 2-12 off four overs: "Sri Lanka got off to a bit of a flier. I was glad to change the game when I did. My job is to try and get wickets through the middle.

"It spun a bit more in the first innings and the dew took effect in the second innings."

A quality game of cricket from Australia. They fought back through a great spell from Adam Zampa, then came out and finished it nicely.

Don't forget England play Australia at 15:00 BST on Saturday.

Naturally those games are always tasty, but that, with the way England have performed so far and how Australia played today, should be one heck of a game.

Job done for Australia. They join England in going two from two in Group 1.

With a massive 18 balls to spare too. That will help their net run-rate rise significantly.
