    Malan c Chameera 6 (Eng 34-2)

    Bowled him!

There was just some debate about whether Dawid Malan had been dropped by Kusal Perera behind the stumps so Dushmantha Chameera decides to just go the lone route.

Malan tries a big booming drive and Chameera gets one to shape in between bat and pad and crash into off-stump.

    Not a great shot.

I think this is a better pitch than we've seen at Sharjah. It's more like a 145, 150 pitch. It doesn't sound like a lot of runs but it is in T20 cricket.

  3. Eng 34-1published at 4.3 overs

Dawid Malan gets his first boundary.

It is a bit too leggy from Dushmantha Chameera and Malan flicks effortlessly to the mid-wicket fence.

  5. Eng 29-1published at 4 overs

More spin for Sri Lanka. The off-spin of Maheesh Theekshana and he has plenty of variations and is difficult to pick.

Two wides slightly spoil an over containing just two singles. The spin is proving difficult to score off already.

The pitch in Sharjah is so shiny with the lights beaming off it. It is like when you've polished your silver spoons or licked a dinner plate clean (no, I don't do that either, but some people do).

A loose bit of fielding sees Jos Buttler pick up a couple. England are enjoying the pace bowlers.

That's better bowling from Sri Lanka. Buttler was lucky - the ball did nip back a little bit.

  9. Eng 23-1published at 2.3 overs

    Streaky!

Lovely delivery from Lahiru Kumara, finding a little bit of in-movement, but a drive from Jos Buttler catches the inside edge and flies over the stumps and down past short fine leg to the boundary.

There was a tiny bit of width on offer, enough for Buttler to get his wrists through the ball.

  11. Eng 19-1published at 2.1 overs

A third over and a third bowl for Sri Lanka. The right-arm seam of Lahiru Kumara is on.

He offers Jos Buttler a tiny bit of width and a back-foot pinch brings the England keeper his first boundary.

    He looks in some touch.

Proper test this for England batting first and on a slow pitch both things they dislike. Will really show how good they are.

Dawid Malan, the number one-ranked batter in the world, is now in. He's been under pressure and found runs hard to come by recently.

He gets off the mark with a drive through point, before Jos Buttler pinches the strike.

It was beautifully bowled - I think it's done Roy in the flight and it dropped on him at the right time. The toughest thing at Sharjah is to play across the ball, and that's exactly what Roy has done.

    Roy b Hasaranga 9 (Eng 13-1)

    An ugly swipe!

Jason Roy gets down on one knee and looks to slog sweep away but the ball skids a little low and cannons into off-stump.

Jason Roy smacked the stumps on his way off. He was not happy.

It isn't easy to hit across the line in Sharjah. England need to play straight.

    Here we go.

This is where it could get interesting.

Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, the number two-ranked bowler in T20 cricket, is going to have a bowl.

It's a very, very good start for England and Sri Lanka will be feeling the pressure already, knowing that scoring is hard to come by in Sharjah.

  20. Eng 12-0published at 1 over

Excellent running, this. Sharjah is like a phone box in comparison to some cricket grounds but Jos Buttler still manages to pick up three with a back-foot push through the covers.

    Cracking start for England.

The pitch has a tinge of blue about it. Think your tongue after eating a sweet or having a lolly that is blue.
