Spin plays dividends straight away! Conway got a tickle on that.

    Conway c Cross b Watt 1 (NZ 52-3)

Mark Watt is into the attack and he strikes straight away!!

Devon Conway goes for the reverse sweep but he can only glove the ball through to Matthew Cross who takes a really smart catch.

A productive powerplay for New Zealand. Kane Williamson will be happy, even though he's been dismissed.

  4. NZ 52-2published at 6 overs

16 off the over from Evans, a decent response from New Zealand after losing those two quick wickets.

High and huge from Guptill into the stands! A remarkable shot.

Devon Conway is the new batter, he has a watching brief to start as Alasdair Evans bowls to Martin Guptill.

The New Zealand opener looks determined to make the most of the remaining balls of the powerplay as pulls Evans off a length for a one-bounce four through long-on.

Evans then strays onto the pads and Guptill beautifully times a flick over fine leg for the first maximum of the day to bring up the New Zealand 50.

    That was effortless.

That wide has ruined the double-wicket maiden.

  8. NZ 36-2published at 5 overs

A wide denies Safyaan Sharif a double-wicket maiden but I doubt he will mind too much. A wonderful over from the Scotland seamer, taking two prized scalps that have dragged his side back into the game.

The keeper Matthew Cross didn't even go up in appeal for that!

Oh my word! He's given him! Williamson is walking off! I was just about to call it a wide.

    Williamson c Cross b Sharif 0 (NZ 35-2)

Safyaan Sharif had got him! Kane Williamson has gone for a duck!

It's the finest off nicks down the leg side and Matt Cross takes the catch.

There were muted appeals, my first impression was it was wide, but the umpire's finger goes up and Williamson walks!

That's high-class bowling from Sharif. It really skidded on.

Mitchell lbw Sharif 13 (NZ 35-1)

The ball tracker shows umpires call - just clipping the top of middle and leg.

    Mitchell has to go!

He is deep in his crease though...does the ball have far to travel?

I'm not at all surprised that Mitchell has instantly reviewed that. It looked high.

    Have Scotland made the breakthrough?

Safyaan Sharif traps Daryl Mitchell lbw but the New Zealand batter instantly reviews.

Mitchell didn't quite time it but he got it straight enough to slice it for four.

  19. NZ 34-0published at 3.5 overs

Now Daryl Mitchell is getting going with a punchy drive straight down the ground for four.

He tries to repeat the trick the following delivery but the ball is cut out by long-on and they run two.

  20. NZ 23-0published at 3 overs

It's been ruthless stuff from New Zealand so far. Scotland have not bowled too badly, but any poor ball has been dispatched for runs.
