It looekd as though Mitchell was trying to hit the ball a bit later and the extra bounce took the edge.

That held its line every so slightly and it was taken low and well by Wade. He had to make some ground as it was dying on him.

    Mitchell c Wade b Hazlewood 11 (NZ 28-1)

    Breakthrough!

This is a nothing dismissal. Daryl Mitchell moves slightly to leg and looks to steer the ball down to third but gets a thin edge through to Matthew Wade.

Wade does well because the ball is dying on him, but he gets down to take a good low catch.

That is a terrific shot. Superb timing.

  5. NZ 27-0published at 3.1 overs

Oh! Shot of the day so far.

Martin Guptill stands tall and back-foot punches Josh Hazlewood through the covers for another boundary.

    Glorious.

An abundance of Mitchells on show today.

  7. NZ 23-0published at 3 overs

Two singles and a leg bye end the over.

    Decent start for New Zealand.

I think he got an edge on that, and Wade could not hold on. It was too close to cut and there was a little bit of turn.

  9. dropped catch

Guptill dropped on 10published at 2.3 overs

    How costly could this be?

Martin Guptill looks to cut away but the ball isn't really wide enough for the shot and he ends up getting a fairly thick under edge on it.

Matthew Wade gets his hands in the right position but can't hold on.

And Daryl Mitchell plants his first ball back down the ground for the first six of the final.

Superb shot, that, because it wasn't a bad ball at all.

Time for a bit of spin. Glenn Maxwell will bowl his off-spin...

  13. NZ 13-0published at 2 overs

Just that boundary from Josh Hazlewood's first over.

A good start from the 30-year-old.

  14. NZ 13-0published at 1.5 overs

    That's loose though.

Josh Hazlewood drops short and into the body of Martin Guptill and the right hander pulls it fine and away to the boundary.

  15. NZ 9-0published at 1.4 overs

Josh Hazlewood, banging away at that Test match line and length, starts with four successive dots.

It will be Josh Hazlewood from the other end.

Pakistan smashed his four overs for 49 in the semi-final on Thursday. Will New Zealand target him?

Congratulations to Australia on their T20 World Cup victory after winning the coin toss.

Good running. Daryl Mitchell works Mitchell Starc off his hips and Josh Hazlewood throws the ball back in from the fine leg boundary. It reaches a fielder just outside the 30-yard ring and he flings it in above the head of wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.

A more accurate throw and there could have been an early run out opportunity.

It was short, wide, and cracked away through backward point.

  20. NZ 4-0published at 0.2 overs

    Smashed away!

Mitchell Starc gives Martin Guptill some width and the opener slashes it through the covers for the first boundary of the final.

    Lovely start.
