  1. NZ 81-2published at 12 overs

    Williamson 39, Phillips 1

Australia needed that breakthrough. New Zealand were just starting to take some control after the drinks break.

Kane Williamson was six off 12 balls at one stage, but he's now up to 39 off 29 balls. He's playing a really good hand here.

    Adam Zampa again...

It was just a normal leggie. Guptill was going for the maximum but it is difficult to sweep leg-spinners in the UAE. Some seem to skid and some bounce.

    Guptill c Stoinis b Zampa 28 (NZ 76-2)

    Easy catch.

Martin Guptill was just starting to get bogged down and he'd seen his captain Kane Williamson start to free his arms at the other end.

He looks to slog sweep away but picks out Marcus Stoinis on the deep mid-wicket boundary.

Stoinis takes the catch about three or four yards in from the rope and then brings out the double first pump and "come onnnn" in celebration.

As we have said all competition, one or two overs could turn it around in a blink of an eye.

  5. NZ 76-1published at 11 overs

Back-to-back boundaries again. Mitchell Starc bowls a filthy toss - which is given as a no-ball - and Kane Williamson works it the mid-wicket boundary.

The extra ball is cut towards the third boundary and Mitchell Marsh does brilliantly to cut it off and keep Williamson down to a couple.

You drop a catch and then a ball is smoked back past you...

  7. NZ 69-1published at 10.5 overs

    Shot!

Kane Williamson absolutely smokes the next ball straight back down the ground and David Warner can get nowhere near it at long-off.

  8. dropped catch

Williamson dropped on 21published at 10.4 overs

Oh, no! Josh Hazlewood, you have to catch that.

Kane Williamson whips away off his legs and Josh Hazlewood has to go slightly to his left at deep fine leg. The ball is above his head but he gets both hands to it and should hang on, but the ball goes through his hands and into the ropes.

Mitchell Starc slopes down puts his hands on his head and Aaron Finch strokes his chin.

It has been an impressive bowling performance so far. They haven't tried too many tricks but when the opposition is not forcing you too there is no need.

It doesn't look easy for batting. New Zealand are not giving anything away but something has got to give. In a final you can't get away with playing conservative cricket.

Mitchell Starc will get us going after the drinks break.

John Dunthorne: The toss has obviously lifted Australia, and deflated New Zealand.

AS: Going to be heartbreaking to see NZ lose another final here.

  13. drinks break

    NZ 57-1published at 10 overs

New Zealand milk Adam Zampa's second over for six singles. They have been very respectful to the leg-spinner so far - they haven't looked to play a shot against him yet.

Time for a drink. Both sides will be talking about what par is on this wicket and what score they want to reach/restrict the other too.

Williamson got himself into a bit of a tangle. I don't think he was neccessarily beaten for pace, it just bounced a little bit.

  16. ouch!

    NZ 51-1published at 9 overs

    Guptill 24, Williamson 15

Oh! Mitch Marsh goes short again and Kane Williamson gets in a bit of a tangle and it hits the Kiwi skipper on the grille.

He's being checked over but he seems absolutely fine. He gets a little pat on the back from Marsh.

  18. NZ 51-1published at 8.5 overs

    Here we go! Back-to-back boundaries.

Kane Williamson stays in his crease this time and goes deep as Mitch Marsh drops short and the New Zealand skipper crashes away a pull shot.

It perfectly dissected long on and deep mid-wicket.

That is the impetus that New Zealand needed. It is the first boundary for a long time.
