Tactically Aaron Finch has been outstanding. He has been incredible at giving confidence to players.

He hasn't had a great tournament himself. He's been under the pump. He has brought together a team - they have always had fantastic individual players but this is the first time we've genuinely seen that camaraderie between the group. They are really playing for each other. It shows in their enjoyment.

I feel for whichever side has to play a pumped-up Australia next.

What's that? The Ashes start in a few weeks? Oh, joy.

Australia will start thinking that they've got a decent cricket team again. They've gone through a period of getting a hammering - they lost the last Test series in Australia and lost T20 series on the road in Bangladesh and West Indies.

They thought their team was no good and they'll wake up with their team world champions. They'll be glowing and it is a good start to the summer.

The brave team won and the team that were a bit tepid came second.

New Zealand just looked like they didn't want to lose and Australia looked like a team that wanted to win.

    Australia are deserving champions.

  8. 'Zampa is a white-ball superstar'published at 17:41 Greenwich Mean Time 14 November 2021

Australia batter Glenn Maxwell, who hit the winning runs: "Adam Zampa has been a superstar in both white-ball formats for a long time. I've had the pleasure of having him at Melbourne Stars and to watch him bring it straight into international cricket has been amazing. He's just fit straight in.

"It was perfect playing here for the IPL first. I was able to give myself a few days off and able to mentally freshen up. I wasn't required a huge amount but it was nice to be out there at the end."

Josh Hazlewood wouldn't have been a first name on the teamsheet a year or so again.

Both teams got here with their bowling units but then in the final it tends to be your batting unit that wins you the game.

Australia were exceptional in the way they went about it. They just played simple stuff and it was almost red-ball bowling that needed tonight. They have played conditions really well.

Here's the winning moment - a victory that very, very few people saw coming at the start of the tournament.

I am genuinely delighted for Mitch Marsh. One of the sport's good guys.

Mitch Marsh, over the course of the West Indies and Bangladesh tours where Australia were beaten heavily, he's stood out and when the main 11 came back he retained his place. That is what you want players to do when they are part of a so-called second XI on tour. He will be a shining light for any person going on tour that is considered a second string.

He is so strong and gifted.

  14. 'We have had a great time here'published at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 14 November 2021

Australia bowler Mitchell Starc: "It hasn't been an ideal lead-up but the closeness of the group. We've had a great time here, off the field, and getting around each other and I think that has shown in the way we've played our cricket. We've all chipped in and contributed.

"Adam Zampa has been fantastic. He's been our best bowler in the last couple of years with the white ball by far. He's made it really easy for us quick bowlers to work in around him."

Everybody did their bit throughout the tournament. The bowling unit were consistent and got them into the final.

Mitch Marsh, David Warner and co got them over the line today. It was a drubbing in the end today. It is taking a little bit away from New Zealand because they have been exceptional throughout.

Australia are the second team to hold both the men and women's T20 World Cup titles after West Indies did it in 2016.

Australia bowler Adam Zampa: "I tried to use my strengths to the best of my ability. It was probably a little bit drier when I was bowling so I tried to use that to my ability."

Australia's bowling unit was always there but never just quite in T20 cricket. I wonder if the bad results has just galvanised the squad but if you look at the names and put them in any franchise tournament they'd be in the top 1-10 to be picked.

  20. 'We actually love each other'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 November 2021

Australia batter Marcus Stoinis: "The key to the win? This group of boys. We actually love each oher. it's beautiful. I am so proud of them. You won't find bigger supporters of Mitch Marsh right here other than his family. We're so proud of him."

Australia bowler Pat Cummins: "I think once we get back home and get back in there it'll sink in. A lot of support back home, people getting up at 1am, it'll sink in then."
