That's two miss-shots in two overs now and that hasn't happened in Daryl Mitchell's innings so far.

That's encouraging for the bowler when you see that.

  2. NZ 169-4published at 57 overs

This is pretty average by England to be honest.

Ben Stokes is persisting with the short-ball tactic, ball after ball. Daryl Mitchell is only looking uncomfortable occasionally but he clubs a pull through mid-wicket before crunching another between fine leg and square leg to end the over.

    Runs are coming.

Not a household name, but I would have Dean Elgar in this team. One of the most reliable opening bats under any conditions.

    Rajiv from London

Our main weakness is up top so Rohit Sharma to open the batting and to set the tone.

    Shaun, Rayne

    Another maiden from James Anderson.

England are at least controlling the run-rate at the moment. New Zealand aren't getting anywhere too quickly but, at 150, their lead is already fairly substantial.

Well done Ben Stokes. He has induced an error from the New Zealand batters that we haven't seen so far.

It was an ugly stroke from Daryl Mitchell, he needs to learn from it if he wants to continue in the middle

    Lucky.

Captain Ben Stokes is on. Can he make something happen? He has so often for England and they need him to deliver again.

It looks like he's going to go short, with just one slip and then a scattergun approach on the leg side to his five leg-side fielders.

It almost works too! A short ball hits high on Daryl Mitchell's bat and it loops in, but Stuart Broad is quite close at mid-off so the ball loops over him.

Stokes has his hands on his head, not just briefly, but for a sustained period of time. He knows that was a key moment. This pitch is generally behaving so to create opportunities is tough.

Grant Rich: Marnus Labuschagne - simply because he’s a fantastic Number 3.

Kelli: Might sound odd but Cheteshwar Pujara. Can bat for hours and build partnerships. Just need someone in that top order who can play defensively when called for.

James: I would add Ravi Jadeja to the team - spin bowling option who walks straight into the batting line up, a rockstar in the field who won’t drop any catches and just has a big presence on the side. Straight into the team for me.

That sort of delivery from James Anderson will keep the bowlers interested. There is still a little bit of movement there.

    Close!

James Anderson shapes one in to Daryl Mitchell and then the ball slightly goes away, down the Lord's slope, and draws a prod from the Kiwi.

It makes the slip cordon and Ben Foakes leap in excitement.

    Another maiden.

That 100 partnership came off 29.5 overs. Prior to that we had 329 runs in the match for 24 wickets, with an average partnership of 13.7 from 26 deliveries.

These two batters are really putting this pitch into context.

It is not a bad Test pitch.

    Century partnership!

Stuart Broad strays onto the pads of Tom Blundell and he whips the ball away to the square leg boundary.

Blundell and Daryl Mitchell have been superb. They've barely taken a risk but they've shifted the momentum completely.

Player to add to England is from the opposition - Devon Conway. He's versatile, so we could replace either an opener or a number 3 with him, and he's also averaged solidly over 50 since joining the side

    Christian from Durham

I'd have Ashwin. Most talented spinner in the world at the moment; even when the pitch gives him nothing - handy lower order batter also.

    Matt, London

This is the session where New Zealand will feel can start go up in the gears.

When they come back tomorrow the new ball will not be far away, so if you can maximise this session against a jaded England attack with an old ball, that's what good teams do.

They earn the right and capitalise on it.

Another good probing over from Stuart Broad.

Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell have put on 94 for the fifth wicket now. It's potentially a match-winning innings.

    Like London busses.

We wait six sessions for a half-century and two come along at once.

Daryl Mitchell has batted very well and swung the momentum firmly back in New Zealand's favour.

With things drifting slightly for England, I'm going to throw open a question to you guys.

If you could take ONE player from world cricket and add them to this England side, who would it be and why?

Would it be Virat Kohli? Steve Smith? Pat Cummins? Jasprit Bumrah? Nathan Lyon?

Nicely played Tom Blundell. He's played with great control and a nice confidence.

That's a gift though with the way this field is set. That's the one ball you cannot bowl.

Tom Blundell gets there first! Matthew Potts over-pitches and the New Zealand keeper leans into the drives and the ball races away and to the fence.

He'd been beaten on the outside edge again earlier in the over. England aren't having much luck at the moment.
