Oh Zak Crawley! That is delightful. He creams that through the covers and out towards the Grandstand for four. Southee comes back with one that turns Crawley inside out but the leading edge falls safely.

Sir Alastair Cook thinks it's 50/50 at the moment with a day three wicket.

Rachel T: England could dissolve into 80-9 and I’ll still believe. I can’t help it. That’s why I love Test cricket.

  3. Eng 21-0published at 6 overs

    Target 277

Change of bowler at the Nursery End. Kyle Jamieson is in for Trent Boult but he struggles to cause any real danger.

A wicket before the interval would be ideal for New Zealand. If England can get through to lunch unscathed, it will do wonders for their belief.

Honestly, I'm actually dreading this... you just sense after a "positive and proactive start" England's middle order will be skittled...! I hope I'm wrong!

Southee continues round the wicket. Williamson brings in a leg gully but Lees has started brilliantly.

He's brimming with confidence and has hit three boundaries already. This one is a gorgeous front foot drive through the covers and Stokes and McCullum look fairly pleased up on the balcony.

That was a lazy defensive shot from Crawley. There was no real footwork at all.

    Target 277

Close! Crawley nearly chops one on from Boult. He decides to play it really late and he's lucky to get away with that!

A real sense of tension at Lord's.

Kenny: 0.1% chance. England will still collapse at 200 runs for no loss

  9. Eng 12-0published at 3 overs

    Target 277

Southee now comes in round the wicket. Lees again takes that unusual guard with his leg stump visible. There's a faint appeal for a caught behind down the leg side but it looks like it just flicked Lees' pad.

The last time England made more than 277 runs in the fourth innings of a Test match was... wait for it. Headingley in 2019.

I can't quite work out what has happened. Brilliant from Broad and Anderson. I texted Jimmy last night and I said England were still in with a chance and he agreed, saying they needed six for 50 this morning.

I like this from England, they are taking the initiative. They will not be dictated to by New Zealand, it's a very positive start.

    Need 266 to win

Nice positive start for England. Crawley clips one off his hips to get off the mark and Lees picks up another boundary.

England were set 273 by the Kiwis last summer with 75 overs left on the final day at Lord's - they decided not to go for it.

They need 277 here with 75 overs left on day three.

Jon Evans: Potts and Parkinson showing good potential going forward. Just need some batters to do the same.

    Need 273 to win

Lees successfully negotiates the first over from Southee. A great shot through extra-cover for four to get off the mark.

Trent Boult to come in from the Nursery End. Interestingly, around the wicket.

Archie: You would have thought that someone is going to have to score a patient and mature 100 for England to chase down these runs. Huge opportunity for someone to impress McCullum.

The players are back out. Alex Lees on strike. Zak Crawley at the other end. Tim Southee with the new cherry.

The first two mornings of this Test were full of wickets. But after a slight rain-delay, we got our first century this morning, courtesy of Daryl Mitchell, who played superbly.

England will be happy with their fightback this morning. New Zealand have only added 49 runs for the loss of six wickets.

But the task ahead is an almighty one. They need 277 to win this Test.

The sun is now shining and it feels like a great day to bat. Can England pull it off?
