    Four more!

Fuller from Stuart Broad but Tim Southee clears the front leg again and chips past Matthew Potts at mid-on and away to the fence.

These runs could be crucial. It's a different balance for Ben Stokes and England at the moment.

  2. NZ 269-8published at 87.1 overs

    Lead by 256

Yep. A clear sign of intent from Tim Southee.

He clears his front leg and whacks Stuart Broad to the long-on boundary.

It threatened to plug but it eventually rolled into the sponge.

Blundell is the fourth New Zealand wicketkeeper to be dismissed in the 90s in England. Brendon McCullum in 2004 and 2008, and John Reid in 1949 - still no hundred for a Kiwi keeper in England.

What are we going to see from New Zealand now?

Ajaz Patel averages 10 in Test cricket, while Trent Boult averages 15.64.

I expect we might see a fair few strokes from Tim Southee in the next few minutes.

England have got the wickets they wanted with a mixture of good deliveries and very casual cricket, and that has opened the door.

Last night, speaking to the press, England assistant coach Paul Collingwood described this as a 'new-ball pitch'. He's right, too. At some point, England will have to survive a new ball, possibly two of them if they are going to complete a run chase.

    Blundell lbw b Anderson 96 (NZ 265-8)

    Absolutely smashing into middle stump!

Tom Blundell really can't do a lot about this, it is a lovely delivery, that nips back in, from James Anderson.

The replays show he's nowhere near it with the bat, and the ball would have crashed about a third of the way down middle stump.

England have really opened the door in the last 15 minutes.

Looked pretty good, very full even though Blundell was forward.

  9. New Zealand reviewpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 4 June 2022

Tom Blundell has been given out lbw by Michael Gough but the New Zealand keeper reviews pretty quickly.

    This looks very, very good.

The age old adage 'Add two wickets to the scoreboard and you've got a different match on your hands'. Add three wickets then you've got an entirely different match.

New Zealand's lead passes 250 - is that already too much for England to chase?

A attempted shot into the on side from Tim Southee skews off his outside edge and through the covers to the boundary.

The Black Caps captain then pulls fine and picks up four more.

A little period of Southee could be very dangerous for England.

That fifth wicket partnership was 195. Either side of that, New Zealand have scored 191 for 16.

  13. NZ 255-7published at 85 overs

James Anderson strays onto the pads of Tom Blundell and they get through for three leg byes.

Tim Southee has a little poke and prod at a couple of balls outside off stump before getting off the mark with a push into mid on.

Breathless stuff, you got the feeling from the way Broad got the crowd going that something was lurking.

Tom Palmer: Magnificent from Broad. 3 balls resulting in 3 wickets. The old guns still so vital for England!!

Georgie Heath: WHAT IS THIS MADNESS. MY GOD I LOVE TEST CRICKET! Is there anything more unpredictable?!

David Merson: And they said the old boy was done!

When Daryl Mitchell was out, Tim Southee was still on the balcony, still in his training gear, shades and woolly hat. Two balls later, he's in.
