A brilliant morning for England, with Broad getting on one of those rolls that he has got on throughout his career.

England are going to have to play very, very well - the problem will be these first 25 overs and, with a long tail, New Zealand will know they will always be just a couple of wickets away from getting through this side.

Southee c Root b Parkinson 21 (NZ 285 all out)

Ah! Lovely moment for Parkinson as he picks up his first Test wicket with a lovely flighted delivery.

Southee looks to slog the leggie and edges it straight into Root's hands at first slip.

It means New Zealand are all out for 285, pretty much all down to Mitchell and Blundell, which leaves England 277 to win the first Test.

Oooft! Brutal from Trent Boult as he smashes Potts back down the ground to finish the over with a boundary.

    New Zealand's lead grows...

Normality has resumed this morning. We have seen some poor batting - apart from Mitchell and Blundell the batting has been so poor in the whole Test.

Banks368: Potts now has a wicket in his 1st over of the day on each day now! Crazy start to his Test career!

Five wickets in the first hour of play at Lord's and it's time for drinks.

Let me take this opportunity to also confirm that Ajaz Patel is not a relation of mine!

Why is Patel playing so aggressively? New Zealand need runs and there is plenty of time. That is a gifted wicket.

    Patel lbw b Potts 4 (NZ 281-9)

Potts strikes! It takes him just three balls.

He traps Patel in front, who reviews unsuccessfully and that's seven for the Durham seamer on debut.

Ball tracking shows three reds - that was plumb.

Matthew Potts and England reckon Ajaz Patel is gone here.

    The Kiwi tailender reviews...

Thanks Callum. The standard has been set!

Heck of a morning so far. And Stokes turns to Matthew Potts...

Right time for me to take a break.

Aadam Patel will take you through to lunch. It's his live text debut so please be kind!

That is probably the best ball he has bowled in this match.

    Yes, Parky. Right there.

He starts a bit wide but his final ball is bang on it. He gets one to go on straight and it sneaks under the bat of Ajaz Patel, and it just evades off stump.

Much more like it from the Lancashire leggie.

England taking three wickets in three balls?

    What's not to love.

    Enjoy.

Whether he can draw and lure a stroke from a left-handed tailender is the idea. I don't think he'll lure him into a big shot, but a good time to bowl as a leg spinner.

Ben Stokes has turned to Matt Parkinson.

There's a chap in front of me in the press box watching what looks like an Indian cooking show on his laptop. Presumably there hasn't been enough action on the field this morning to keep him interested in the cricket.

Steady from James Anderson as Tim Southee and Ajaz Patel both pick up a single.

Every run is making England's task more and more difficult.

Tim Southee keeps going and whacks into mid-wicket but Jonny Bairstow is there to stop it. However, he's done some mischief. It's his finger, but it might just be a nail. He's gone off for the time being anyway.

Southee edges through Joe Root, at first slip, and they get through for a single. I think it dropped short of the former England skipper.
