Need 61 runs to win
Still. In. It.

Since Ben Stokes got out Joe Root has added 43 runs from 42 balls.
Can you not just leave these ones, lads? Ben Foakes takes a single.
He'll finish the day unbeaten. Will Joe Root?
Here is the final ball of the day...
Foakes lets this one bounce over his shoulder. The England balcony looks calm...
Careful!
Joe Root goes after the bouncer but nails in into the ground. He's now off strike.
Three to go.
New Zealand are going to go for a short-ball theory to end the day...

This is where Root is so good - he just picks you off with those ones and twos, always looking to score.
More top stuff from Joe Root. He takes a couple early in the final over when he could easily have strolled to the other end.
Four balls remain...
Need 66 runs to win
Don't say that, Peter...
Root has gone to another level since Stokes fell just over an hour ago. He's taken command and has done almost all of the scoring. Proper, proper batting from England's greatest.
He'll start the final over on strike.

Peter: Don't want to get ahead of myself - but how often does Joe Root get out in the first hour of play after being not-out over night?
England's deficit is into the sixties now as Root takes two twos. This partnership is now worth 51 and Ben Foakes has only scored eight of them.
There are people on their feet!

If Ben Foakes can do well here, it could set him up for the rest of the summer.
Need 71 to win
Another over ticked off. There'll be one, maybe two, more tonight.
Kane Williamson comes in for a chat with Kyle Jamieson mid-over. How he'd love one more here.

England are just edging their noses in front for my money, and Joe Root holds the key.
Need 73 runs to win
One thing to keep on your mind is the second new ball which will come after 80 overs, less than 20 overs away. It has been so much easier to bat against the old ball in this match. England will want to get most, if not all, of their way to their target before it comes.
Ten minutes remain. Ben Foakes is batting for the close now.

New Zealand will be happy for the break - back to the hotel, early dinner and a rub down. They will be the happier at the close. I don't think they will be hurrying before the close.
Need 75 runs to win
"Good running," mutters Phil Tufnell on TMS as Ben Foakes turns back for a second. It looked tight but he gets there comfortably.
These two have to get to the close. The former skipper simply has to stay there...

Root has taken 16 runs off his last 12 balls. It feels like he's sensing an opportunity to attack a weary New Zealand bowling line-up.
