"It was nice do it for Ben," says Joe Root.
"The amount of times he done it for me over the years. It is nice to do it back for him."
Joe Root sounds emotional in his interview right now on TMS.
Here's the moment he got to his hundred...

Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special
I thought this morning was an anti-climax, the portents were for a compelling finish. They had to get Root out, but it was nice he could play the way he does.
New Zealand tried to change the ball three times today, they did not bowl a maiden and they didn’t apply any pressure. It beggared belief to see the lack of control of those three bowlers and that was a really poor part of the game.
Was this the moment that swung the game?
England were 251-4 at the start of a Stuart Broad over yesterday. England took a team hat-trick and New Zealand were soon dismissed for 285.

Neil: The one thing that I wasn't expecting this morning was for it to be relaxing. Incredible performance. Hopefully the start of a new era.
Pete: Well. I thought this game was well and truly lost on Friday evening. Shows you what I know. Brilliant stuff from Root.
Tom: The roar for the winning runs is actually about the refund, not the result!
English cricket smiles again...

A word for Ben Foakes. Amid talk around his place in the team, he ended 32 not out.

One of the best. What a story to come back from a torrid 18 months or so. It's going to be a happy dressing room, for sure.

He gets a big hug from Foakes who has played significant part as well.
Root is a man released, one of the best batsmen since WW II for sure. He is like the fresh face Joe Root of old
Root, who ended 115 not out, is blinking furiously as he takes the applause on his way off.
In his first Test since giving up the captaincy...
I think there's a tear there.
The celebrations on the England balcony are relatively tame but it's a winning start to the Ben Stokes era.
The nine-Test winless run is over.
Smashed for four! England have pulled it off.
Joe Root, with one of the great knocks by an England batter, has led them to victory.
Another one nailed by Root... To the fielder.
Two balls remain in the over...
Four more!
Root is doing it at a canter.
Two to win!!
This man is not human.
Off the very first ball after drinks Joe Root casually dinks Tim Southee through the slips for four.
Six to win. He's England's greatest ever and I'm not having anyone tell me otherwise.
Sir Alastair Cook
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
It has all been low risk batting, it's what makes him one of the greats, he is in control of everything he does. He has looked the part ever since his debut in India in 2012.
Need 10 runs to win
Root reached his hundred by scoring 66 runs from 68 balls since Ben Stokes got out. The team needed him and he absolutely stepped up.
He's just received a pat on the back from Kane Williamson.
The players are going to take a drink. I'm going to say it. Surely England are there now?
