It is absolutely mad that it is exactly the same age.

I am happy to call it a draw...

Lord's settles again and so does Root, ending the over with another single.

    Just 13 to go now.

I was so glad I was here to witness that. An unbelievable knock by an unbelievable player, in my opinion the most complete England batsman in all forms. Can he see it through?

Off comes the helmet. All of Lord's rises. He's beaming.

Root has got to 10,000 runs at exactly the same age as Sir Alastair Cook. They are the joint youngest to do so.

Another memorable moment here at Lord's for Joe Root! One of the greatest moments for him.

It's been a game of cricket that has had everything. There can't be another twist, surely?

Ben Stokes is rocking back and forth in his chair on the balcony. Is he nervous?

Joe Root will begin the next over on 98 in this innings and 9,998 in his career...

    Sir Alastair Cook

This has been a brilliant partnership. Last night for Foakes it was all about occupation. Root then took the mantle of scoring under serious pressure.

Another single for Root. That's the hundred partnership.

    An outstanding stand.

Oooooft! That was almost the moment for New Zealand. I've actually just felt my heart do a somersault. Joe Root has inside-edged centimetres from his stumps.

It goes for four too and Root gives a look to Southee as if to say "I know".

    He's onto 97 now.

It didn't get up and on this slow wicket he had time to get onto the back foot. Foakes has absolutely nailed that.

  15. Eng 252-5published at 74.3 overs

    Root 92, Foakes 28

I tell you what... It's really starting to come into view now. Runs are coming easily with Foakes pulling Tim Southee to the fence.

Kane Williamson's expression has not changed but he must be worried now.

That was a carbon copy of the Foakes shot in the last over, the straight on drive - what a feeling.

Root's game-management is outstanding. He took 40-odd off 40 balls in that period after Stokes was out and the way he kept it going was masterful.

  19. Eng 248-5published at 73.2 overs

    Oh Joseph...

If he'll let me I'll ditch my girlfriend and move in with this shot. Four more down the ground.
