Top work, Ffion. I was prepping myself to come on and talk about the dullness of that session.

Then, as it so often does with this England team, something incredible happened.

This is pretty much how the live text team at BBC Sport HQ reacted to that Henry Nicholls dismissal:

    "Is that out?"

"What happened - did he catch it?"

"Did it come off the umpire? Surely not?"

"No, no, it was the bat. He's out."

Jack Leach's face is a picture. He has no idea how that has happened and to be honest, neither have I.

Daryl Mitchell is in such good form he even middles that one to get his batting partner out.

While the players go for their break, it's time for me to take mine too - I leave you in the safe hands of Kal Sajad for the final session. Goodbye!

Surely they should both be out!

Oh, cricket can be so cruel.

Henry Nicholls had grafted so hard, he was finding batting really difficult but had managed to grind his way to 19 from 99 balls.

And then he gets out like that. You've got to feel for him.

With that wicket falling in the final over of the session, the players have gone off for tea and England are now undoubtedly the happier side.

There are laughs all around Headingley as the replays are shown on the big screen. The England players are grinning on their way off for tea.

    That is a remarkable dismissal.

I'm not sure I have ever seen that in a Test match.

Fortuitous, but they will take it.

A wicket in the over for tea and in what dramatic fashion! Stay tuned for the video of this one.

I'll try and describe what happened as best I can. Henry Nicholls drills the ball firmly, it looks to be heading to the long-on boundary, but instead it ricochets off Daryl Mitchell's bat at the non-striker's end - who was trying to move out of the way - and straight into the hands of Alex Lees at mid-off!

What a brilliant yet bonkers game cricket is.

A tidy start from Root, just three from it as Mitchell paddle sweeps him nicely.

One over to go until tea.

Joe Root must be the most popular man in all of Yorkshire.

Judging by that ovation there’s a big gap to whoever is second too.

Huge cheers from the Yorkshire crowd as Joe Root is into the attack for the first time.

  12. NZ 120-4published at 54 overs

Jack Leach concedes just a single from his over as New Zealand edge towards the tea break.

He will be relieved not to have seen many more of these.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Cameron, that sounds nasty! Hopefully you'll be back on the pitch soon.

I miss the days of being 18 and not needing to do a warm up. These days all it takes is one over and I can barely walk for three days.

Another Jack Leach maiden drifts by. I'm sure he'll be glad that the sun's gone in, I can imagine a sunburnt head is pretty painful.

Daryl Mitchell, meanwhile, continues to frustrate England and has looked much more comfortable.

We have seen some stunning, extraordinary, unusual days of cricket this series but today is reverting to a more old fashioned day of Test cricket, with the run rate well below three an over.

The cloud has drifted over Headingley now and it looks very humid.

Henry Nicholls has grafted impressively here - 17 from 86 balls. It's not been box office but you've got to give him credit.

Odd that wicketkeepers are so influential in review decisions. Probably standing in one of the worst places on the field (if not standing up to the wicket)

Perhaps more importantly... how's the umpire not given it out?

Six first ball, block out the rest.

    Easy game.
