Trent Boult is like a whippet in the field and that shot was only seven or eight yards away from him. But Bairstow hit that so hard he couldn't get near it.

    Bairstow 110, Overton 86

England were 55-6, for crying out loud!

This is as good a century as you could hope to see. Jonny Bairstow hammers that point home with a gorgeous swivel-pull that beats Trent Boult on the boundary for four.

England's deficit is now down to two figures.

Wow. That is an innings to match last week.

That was to get England over the line. This was to get them back in the match.

And what a celebration. I don't think I have ever seen a player run so far before.

  6. Eng 233-6published at 42.3 overs

Bairstow leans back and guides Boult's latest delivery wide of first slip for four.

    I mean.

What a moment. Bairstow has almost reached the pavilion when running away in celebration.

95 balls for that century. Silly, wonderfully silly cricket.

Bairstow is very emotional - I think he was running down towards his family to celebrate. He drinks in the applause before settling himself down for the next ball.

    JONNY BAIRSTOW!

Another four and Bairstow goes charging away, almost down to the boundary rope, arms outstretched, drinking in the applause.

Just simply stunning. And the noise from the crowd, my word...

People are rising to their feet just in anticipation of Bairstow being on strike...

"Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire..." comes the cry.

Jonny Bairstow, on 98, awaits Trent Boult. It is going to be carnage in that West Stand if he gets to three figures...

  13. Eng 225-6published at 42 overs

Jamie Overton gets an ovation for leaving the final ball of the over and ensuring Jonny Bairstow will be on strike.

You just don't see this kind of punishment in Test match cricket.

  15. Eng 225-6published at 41.4 overs

Jamie Overton lines up Daryl Mitchell and absolutely monsters him over his head and back down the ground for four.

    This is just daft.

  16. Eng 221-6published at 41.3 overs

    Bairstow 98, Overton 81

Jonny Bairstow chops down his bat beautifully, but it's cut off by the fielder at short third.

The crowd are pretty vocal about their disappointment, before he turns away a single through backward square.

    Shot!

Jonny Bairstow! Woof. An absolutely glorious drive goes flying through mid-on for four and to take him to 97 not out.
