JayRad: England have bowled really well but really surprised at how indisciplined the New Zealand batsmen have been this tour. Apart from Mitchell and Blundell none have really got their heads down and built an innings.

Stuart Broad is bowling nicely here. The crowd realise this is a big moment for England. They're getting behind Stuart Broad and we know he likes that.

  5. NZ 154-4published at 44.4 overs

Nicholls gets a single to put Mitchell on strike. Mitchell pulls away and gets a mouthful from Broad. He's up for it, and so is the rest of Headingley...

    A big flash from Nicholls!

Another wicket? No, he didn't touch it. Stuart Broad waves at the crowd, revving them up.

    Can he frustrate England again?

It feels like England are definitely on top now. Williamson holds his head in frustration at playing that shot.

That's very unlike Kane Williamson. Away from his body. Tries to play it with a straight bat. It's a mental error. A lack of judgement. Just switching off for that second.

In comes Matthew Potts for wicket-taker Root... and he's bagged the New Zealand captain!

He tries to cut the Durham youngster, but only succeeds in nicking behind to Jonny Bairstow.

It had been a better innings from Williamson and he looked set to make his first fifty of the series, but it was not to be. Two wickets for one run for England.

If England can get another couple tonight, I don't think they will be too concerned about chasing 300. They won't be too worried about batting against Michael Bracewell and it can become easier to bat against seamers on this surface.

He continues where he left off with a maiden.

Root is only bowling because otherwise the players would have come off because of bad light before the rain. It's amazing how the circumstances play out.

What a catch this is. It's probably an inch off the ground. Low down to his left. That's a fantastic grab.

    Conway c Pope b Root 11 (NZ 152-3)

New Zealand must hate having breaks!

Jamie Overton had Tom Latham with the first ball of the session and now Joe Root has struck with the first ball after the rain delay.

Conway tries to block his delivery and Ollie Pope snaffles it a short-leg, an inch or so above the ground with his left hand. Great catch.

Joe Root spins the ball in his hands - he's about to resume his over.
