  1. SA 231-8published at 74.1 overs

    Full, wide, four.

Marizanne Kapp doesn't seem to feel pressure in the slightest as she smashes a boundary from the first ball of Davidson-Richards' over, just after seeing a wicket fall at the other end.

Perhaps she senses that this is her time to attack with the new ball looming.

That four runs from Jafta might not sound much but she faced 39 balls and managed to support Marizanne Kapp who really needed that partner.

Who said England needed the new ball?

Kate Cross continues to probe away on a nagging line and length and gets her reward. Jafta plays across the line and gets a leading edge that heads towards extra cover where Issy Wong takes a fine one-handed catch over her head as the ball just seemed to keep travelling.

A big breakthrough for England. For South Africa, how long can the final two hang around for Marizanne Kapp?

I'd say very crucial. It seems to have gone a little flat for England - the runs aren't exactly flowing, but it seems easy enough to defend and pick off the bad ball.

The swing of the new ball will be a real challenge for the lower order. As well as Sinalo Jafta has defended, she hasn't looked to score much so it will test her technique.

What point do we start talking about the new ball and how crucial that will be?

Dane van Niekerk is a very proud wife right now. She will inevitably be gutted to miss out on the Test as she recovers from injury, but I'm sure Kapp's knock has made up for that somewhat.

Sinalo Jafta blocks out a maiden, clearly content with her supporting role to Kapp, which she's done well so far.

Jack Rule: A wonderful 100 from Marizanne Kapp. So very well deserved from an amazing player and excellent ambassador for the women’s game. How lucky South Africa are to have her today, it could have been a very different story without her.

Dan O'Brien: Fine 100 from Kapp!

  10. SA 225-7published at 71 overs

Marizanne Kapp is just the fourth South African woman to score a Test century, indicative of just how little they play, the most recent before this coming from Mignon du Preez in 2014.

With wickets falling around her and England bowling brilliantly, that has been a masterclass. And there was me saying she's more of a bowler earlier ...

It's been a really mature decision from Kapp that she noticed someone needed to step up with the bat and anchor those around her and she's taken that on.

  12. SA 222-7published at 70 overs

The over ends as it begins with Kapp slashing another four down to the third boundary.

In amongst the excitement of her century, there was another four two balls later that was carved past point, so that's an expensive over from Kate Cross with 12 coming from it.

    SA 214-7

What an innings, what a player.

It's not her best shot to get there but she will not care in the slightest. A thick edge flies down to third man and she raises her arms aloft to the dressing room in celebration. A fairly low key celebration by Kapp's standards but it's because she knows the job is not done yet.

She wants to keep going and make a match-winning score for her team. She is such a fighter, so much to admire in her attitude.

    Kapp 96, Jafta 1

Oh, so close! Alice Davidson-Richards draws the edge from Jafta and it looks to be heading straight to Sophie Ecclestone at slip but it doesn't carry, dropping agonisingly short of her outstretched left hand.

It would be extremely brutal of me to call that a chance, but Davidson-Richards continues to cause problems.

The first ball that ever came to me in international cricket was here at Taunton and it went straight through my legs.

  16. SA 209-7published at 68.1 overs

Oh dear. Emma Lamb won't want to look at the big screen for that one.

A misfield sees the ball go through her legs and away for four, moving Kapp on to 96. We've all been there.

What I love is that Katherine Brunt has retired from test matches and she's here cheering every ball. It would have been so easy for her to be at home just watching but she's out there loving it and getting everyone involved.

  19. SA 205-7published at 67 overs

The camera pans to recently retired Test cricketer Katherine Brunt dancing in the stands, seemingly having an absolute blast. She doesn't look as if she's missing bowling, let's put it that way.

Kapp pulls firmly to square leg where Kate Cross saves a certain boundary with a great diving stop before Sinalo Jafta clips one off her legs to get off the mark.

  20. SA 203-7published at 66 overs

A maiden from Sophie Ecclestone ends with another lbw appeal but umpire Anna Harris is having none of it.

They discuss a review, but Heather Knight opts against it, indicating that the ball was going down leg.

Three of England's Test debutants have taken a wicket today. I wonder if Emma Lamb will have a bowl for complete a clean sweep?
