More from Kane Williamson on TMS: "Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell were outstanding throughout the series. Daryl's sheer volume of runs was immense and history breaking and it was great for us to see some depth in the batting moving forward. Tom kept really well and contributed heavily with the bat. There were some really good signs and it is just that little bit extra that gets you over the line and I think over the series England won a couple of fine moments that went a long way to them winning."

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on TMS: "It has kind of been similar throughout the last months - there has been a lot of similar traits. There has been a lot of good for us but we haven't come away with any of the fruits, which has been a bit frustrating.

"In every match we've been in positions where we've found ourselves ahead of the game and in positions of strength but credit to England for the way they've come out and played the game and counter-attacked under times of pressure.

"Jonny Bairstow's and Jamie Overton's run-a-ball 260 was quite staggering and it has been an incredible series for Jonny, Joe Root and the England team.

"There are lots of lessons from this series - they are a very strong side. They have unwrapped a style of playing with some freedom that has really suited them in the last three games and I've got no doubt they'll commit to that style moving forward. It is a of regrouping for us now, losing is never nice but you can look at areas and try to improve. At times we've probably played worse and won games. It has been a tough series."

Formidable or what??? England got their 656 runs to win in 121.2 overs compared with NZ's 655 runs taking 222.5. 100 overs LESS!!!

We're expecting to get England's squad for the India Test pretty much straight after this - it should be interesting.

The squad will likely stay the same but will James Anderson come back in? I saw him bowling earlier and he looked fit.

Finally from Ben Stokes on TMS: "I am playing for England, it is literally the greatest thing to do. Now I am captain and it is something so special. It should be fun and you should always have a smile on your face."

More from Ben Stokes on TMS about Jonny Bairstow: "Jonny knows exactly what he's doing in white-ball cricket and he's very clinical in the way he plays. The way we're playing in red ball at the moment has given him that clarity about the way he wants to play and he's literally playing like he's playing one-day cricket and it is unbelievable to watch. His century at Trent Bridge was amazing but personally I thought his century here was even better than that because of the situation he found himself in. Long may it continue.

"I've never seen anyone ask the coach, after getting 130 off 90 balls, what he should go and do, so I think Baz just said 'come and sit next to me and do your sukukos mate'. And then when I went out to bat with him I just said 'shall we do another Trent Bridge?' and he said 'OK' - it was simple."

More from Ben Stokes on TMS about Jack Leach: "When I took on this job it was more than about results for me. It was about a change of mindset for me - we want people to be feeling the love for Test cricket. I'm not 100% sure it has been lost but over the last three games I couldn't have asked for anything more. I said I wanted to be entertainers coming into the series and we've certainly done that.

"Sometimes the batting can overshadow the bowling with the way we play but for Jack Leach to take 10 wickets at Headingley, where it isn't renowned for taking wickets, and even the responsibility I've put on his shoulders and the overs he's bowled. It was fantastic to see and I'm just seeing him growing as a bowler and as a character as well."

  8. Postpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

England captain Ben Stokes on Test Match Special: "Good day, wasn't it? Good series too. I'm really happy.

"I don't know how we've won that from 55-6. We've said we'll go out and play a certain way regardless of the situation and it's worked for us. After Jamie and Jonny's partnership I said in the changing room 'don't underestimate the impact our mentality now will have on people that may come into the side in the future'. Jamie's contribution was massively crucial.

"Trent Bridge was amazing to be a part of but I look at the way that this game has played out and we've stuck with what we've said we're going to do. Those situations are really hard to stick to what you've said you're going to do - that is the most pleasing for me. Everyone went out and showed that same intent and putting that positive influence onto the game and it's turned out with us winning the game."

England are playing like a one-day game and having a good old bash. It was a remarkable performance considering they were 55-6.

New Zealand have been in the games at different moments.

They have selected the wrong players at certain times so they'll have to look at that.

The core of the batting - one to four - are all solid players and at the start of the series they'd have thought that New Zealand's could dominate compared to England. That hasn't been the case at all.

I was just speaking to Michael Atherton and we were debating if we could ever remember Australia playing like that two games in a row - playing with so much power and making it look so easy.

The chase was never in doubt. I don't know anyone who was in the comms corridor or anywhere that doubted that they'd get those runs quickly.

This has been a triumph for Jonny Bairstow. He has played two brilliant innings.

His centuries at Trent Bridge and then in the first innings here are both as good as you'll see.

I'll say it again: I don't know how you're meant to bowl at him at the moment.

Martin Tooth: What an incredible turnaround by England, not just to win this Test from 55-6, but to successfully chase three consecutive 275+ scores. A month ago you wouldn’t have backed England to chase 150. Brilliant. Some pride restored.

England all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

It is amazing how the fortunes for both teams has changed so quickly because it was only last summer that New Zealand were world champions. England were right at the bottom and it has completely flipped over the course of three weeks.

New Zealand have picked the wrong teams and made some mistakes - the kind that England were making three or four months ago. England have gone the opposite way and made no mistakes.

I'm just thinking about the man of the match award - it has to be Jonny Bairstow for his century really, but poor Jack Leach taking 10 and not getting it.

England needed just 15.2 overs to knock off the 113 runs they needed this morning.

Jonny Bairstow hit a 44-ball 71, with eight fours and three sixes.

Joe Root was relatively glacial in comparison, taking 125 deliveries for his 86.
