It was almost a lazy swing of the bat from Jason Roy.
It can't be a great feeling to come on and get banged for six.

It was almost a lazy swing of the bat from Jason Roy.
It can't be a great feeling to come on and get banged for six.
Ravi Jadeja's first delivery is dispatched by Jason Roy, who uses the crease to whack him back over his head for a glorious six. He's hitting himself into some kind of form and rhythm.

This feels like an important innings for Dawid Malan, especially with the people that aren't here.
Somewhere there has to be room for Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow.
Malan always seems to be under pressure despite him being the number one in the world so often.

You have to ask yourself if the field change brought the wicket. It was a bit close to him to play the cross-bat shot. It was good field positioning from India and good bowling to bowl to the plan.

There was lots of bat on that and it is a shame from Jos Buttler's perspective - he was just looking dangerous and certainly entertaining.
Buttler b Avesh Khan 18 (Eng 31-1)
Dragged on.
It's slightly slower from Avesh Khan and Jos Buttler attempts to flash it off the face of the bat but instead guides it on to his stumps. Buttler's hands were quite a way from his body so he was not quite in control of that.
England's captain trudges off. Dawid Malan arrives at the crease.

Jos Buttler chips the ball down the ground - ever so slightly mistiming a lofted drive - off Avesh Khan and England run three.

That will make Jason Roy feel better. He got hold of that one.
It is a good start for England now.
That's more like it from Jason Roy as he pumps Ravi Bishnoi's final delivery to the boundary for a maximum with a humongous slog sweep. He picked up the length early and threw the kitchen sink at it. Brutal hitting.

Jason Roy looks really out of sorts. It is almost like he is trying to hit the ball too hard.
Spin for India early on - as is the fashion - with Ravi Bishnoi into the attack. Jason Roy looks a little bit uncertain and keeps out his first three balls before a single through point.

I'm on speed gun watch with Umran Malik. Back of the length deliveries don't tend to be done justice on the speed gun - you can only tell with yorkers really.

What an over that was. We saw pace, hostility and we saw two fours - that was a lovely cover drive - and the six.
I suppose it's true - the faster you bowl, the faster you come off the bat.
This is more from the MCC batting manual as Jos Buttler drives Umran Malik, classically, down the ground for four. That made a lovely sound off the bat. Beautiful.

That was 100mph off the bat!

Oh, what a shot that is! There was little effort from Jos Buttler. It was just a short-arm jab.
It was a lively delivery but that didn't matter to Jos Buttler.
Have a bit of that. Jos Buttler rocks on to the back foot and baseball style thumps Umran Malik over mid-wicket for six. That was cleanly struck by the England captain. He is up and running now.

You can feel the sense of anticipation Malik is bringing to the crowd. The speeds are popping up on the big screen after each ball. I'm worried if he goes for a proper bouncer it'll come through our window in the media centre.
Umran Malik, ice white bowling boots, goes short again as he touches 90mph with his third delivery and the ball thumps into Jos Buttler's midriff. Oof. England scramble a bye.
