That wasn't necessarily controlled by Jos Buttler - a yard to the left and it would have been caught. It was very close to the man at backward point.

  2. Eng 2-0published at 1.1 overs

Umran Malik digs his first ball into the pitch a little short as he lets off a grunt on delivery. However, Jos Buttler is over the top of it and punches it to the fence. That will have felt good.

If the series was level England would have put out their best XI today, but it is about looking forward to the World Cup now. There is a lot of potential for players to put their names in the hat and get on the plane to Australia.

  4. Eng 2-0published at 1.0 overs

Phil Salt, of course, is in England's XI today but is batting at number four.

Jason Roy off the mark with a slap through mid-wicket before a huge, filthy, waft of the willow which does not connect.

Jason Roy was very fortunate he didn't get more bat on that because it was almost straight to Dinesh Karthik.

He doesn't quite look himself. There must have been an argument for replacing him with Phil Salt.

  6. Eng 0-0published at 0.3 overs

Jason Roy spoon Avesh Khan's third ball to mid-wicket but the fielder is too deep. A bit of let off for the England opener.

  7. Postpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 10 July 2022

Jason Roy and England skipper Jos Buttler have both made their way out to the middle. Roy has taken guard, and Avesh Khan has the ball in hand at the top of his mark.

    Play.

It is a beautiful afternoon in Nottingham.

England have lost the first two games by big margins and although the likes of Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid and Jonny Bairstow aren't here you need to be winning games and get momentum. There is a chance for some of these players to put a marker down.

It's a sell out at Trent Bridge. India's players are just making their way out on to the outfield. A lot of excitement around 22-year-old quick bowler Umran Malik. He made his T20 debut against Ireland, and bowls absolute rockets.

A raft of India fans with camera phones excitedly filming their heroes from the sidelines.

Interesting graphic that Trent Bridge is in the top 10 highest runs per over grounds in world cricket which also suggests a runfest.

I've actually played twice at the ground in third spot - the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria!

Former England skipper Eoin Morgan has described the pitch as "like concrete" after giving it a hearty knock of the knuckles on it. Should be a good day for the batters.

It's lolly ice weather in Nottingham, as it is in most parts of the United Kingdom today.

I've been watching Umran Malik warming up. Absolute wheels.

The right-arm quick, who bowled 97mph in this year's IPL, could add some life to what is now a dead rubber.

  15. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 10 July 2022

India captain Rohit Shama: "We would have fielded first. It's the change we wanted after batting in the first few games. Chasing is one the of the things we wanted to do.

"We don't want to lose the momentum and understand the importance of winning games. We are trying a few slots and we will see how it goes."

  16. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 10 July 2022

India make four changes as Shreyas Iyer, Avesh Khan, Umran Malit and Ravi Bishnoi come in for Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal.

England have made two changes with Phil Salt and Reece Topley into the side for Sam Curran and Matthew Parkinson.

  18. Postpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 10 July 2022

England captain Jos Buttler: "It is just a change and hopefully a change in fortunes. It looks a great wicket.

"Phil Salt is going to bat at four, but as ever in T20 cricket the order will be quite fluid.

"It looks a brilliant surface so hopefully we can make good use of it. There is still a lot of confidence in the group and we've been disappointed with how we've batted in the series but today is a chance to put that right."

  19. England win toss and bat firstpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 10 July 2022

Rohit Sharma calls incorrectly so Jos Buttler has decided to bat first.

Virat Kohli's recent troubles have been well-documented.

He had a long, long net before play today. Not everything was middled but at one point he cracked a hook shot that had the coach beating his baseball glove above his head.
