    Jason Roy goes!

Jonny Bairstow clips towards fine leg for a single to bring Roy on strike. Roy then looks to flick one off middle and leg but it just loops up to a grateful Suryakumar Yadav at deep square leg.

A scratchy innings comes to an end.

He looks in pain. It looks like it got him in the ribs. That is really nasty.

You know that hurts because he is not someone who shows pain. He is a tough character.

There's a change in bowling as Hardik Pandya comes into the attack.

Jonny Bairstow goes for a pull but doesn't quite time it and the ball smacks into his ribs. Ouch.

It was technically a chance but Bumrah's hand was behind him when he stopped it, that's how hard it was hit.

Probably more of a good save than a drop.

Jasprit Bumrah bowls out a maiden as England once again count their lucky stars.

Everything went wrong for them on Tuesday but they have have a few key moments fall in their favour so far here.

England have had some luck. India have bowled very well, Shami in particular has been unlucky as he's got the ball to move both ways and beaten the edge a fair bit.

  10. dropped catch

    Eng 40-0

A tough one, but that will go down as a drop.

Jason Roy smashes one right back at Jasprit Bumrah but the India batter can only get one hand on it.

Three years ago today, I virtually missed the entire World Cup final. I was in La Paz in Bolivia, and during the denouement I was travelling across the city by cable car. There was only Wi-Fi in each station – so we would have 30 seconds to frantically check the score, before setting off again. It only became clear we had won when we reached the end of the line! I’ve watched the highlights every day since, always brings a tear to the eye!

It was the day of my Mum and Dad's 30th wedding anniversary, we had booked a lovely fish restaurant in Whitstable and were staying in a hotel about a five minute walk away. I had resigned myself to the fact I'd be missing the ending of the cricket it but as it got closer and closer Dad and I didn't dare leave. Ended up being about an hour late for the restaurant. Mum forgave us but said that dad needs to check in advance if there's cricket on for their 40th wedding anniversary!

Being positive doesn't always have to mean playing a big shot. It can be through your body language, your footwork.

He's played a couple of confident defensive pushes now which makes a difference, rather than just poking or plodding.

Mohammed Shami once again gets one to escape through past Jonny Bairstow's inside edge.

Shami will wonder how he has not got a wicket today.

That was very wide, Jonny Bairstow really threw his hands at it.

Would it have carried if there was a second slip in there?

  15. Eng 40-0published at 6.4 overs

    Edged...but safe!

Jonny Bairstow flings his arms at a wide one from Mohammed Shami and the ball flies through were second slip would be standing.

It's important for England to just stay there, to see off this spell.

They will get used to the pace of the pitch, the bounce and the India bowlers. The longer you stay out there, the easier it becomes to score runs.

  17. Eng 35-0published at 6 overs

Jonny Bairstow isn't quite timing it at the moment but his power is bringing him runs as he pulls a short Jasprit Bumrah delivery through mid-wicket for four.

After six overs on Tuesday England were 22-4. They are now 35-0.

    Progress.

Oh that's what you do! Stand there and slog him into the grandstand for six!

He must've been thinking that if he carries on like this he will get out, so he might as well do something. There was nothing wrong with that ball at all.

Ha, Jason Roy has had enough. He brings up the first maximum of the day with a slog over mid-wicket.

A shot into on-side the brings three to end the over.
