    James Anderson
England bowler on Test Match Special

It looked like he struck it well, but that was a really good bit of bowling - slightly wider, slightly slower. These two had been milking the seamers pretty easily.

    Willey c Suryakumar b Chahal 18 (Eng 247-8)

There's some comedy boos from the stands as a beach ball escapes onto the outfield and is burst by one of the India fielders.

There's another misfield too, from Virat Kohli of all people, gifting four runs to David Willey.

These are proving very useful runs for England.

250 will be a very good score with the way this pitch has played.

    James Anderson
England bowler on Test Match Special

England have got to be a little bit careful, they do not want to fall away and give cheap wickets away. With these two, they have a chance.

  7. Eng 235-7published at 42 overs

That will help too. Mohammed Siraj bangs one into the surface and it lifts off, flying over the batter and Rishabh Pant for five wides.

It's all a bit chaotic at the moment, but Craig Overton has raced to 19 from 22 balls and David Willey is 12 from 11.

Hardik Pandya's sixth over was eventful to say the least.

    David Willey joins the party!

That's a lovely shot, smashing Prasidh Krishna over mid-wicket for a maximum.

  10. Eng 220-7published at 40.3 overs

That's a high full toss from Prasidh Krishna, the ball looked to have slipped out of his hands.

Craig Overton takes full advantage though and creams the free hit through mid-wicket for four.

  11. Eng 214-7published at 40 overs

Comfortable sofas, but uncomfortable viewing if you are an England fan.

The short ball has troubled England all innings and Craig Overton is the latest batter to get into a bit of a muddle as he looks to pull into the on-side.

Jos Buttler battled his way to a gritty half-century and looked set for more - but have England's hopes of a decent total disappeared with him?

  14. Eng 208-7published at 39 overs

Toby Wood: More brittle, naive, slogathon batting.

George Speakman: When did we become so brainless with the way we bat? Time and time again we get caught out playing needless shots at awful times.

Liam Livingstone caused some damage to the the fence protecting the building site with a huge six. But Hardik Pandya had the last laugh.

  17. Eng 202-7published at 38 overs

So Craig Overton joins David Willey at the crease. Can they drag England up to a decent total? There isn't a great deal of batting after this. Batting out the 50 looks to be the immediate challenge right now.

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Former England batter on Test Match Special

That is a catch to light up the crowd! Pandiya has been banging away, and his fielders have backed him up.

That is two big wickets back to back, that partnership could have allowed England to accelerate, but Pandiya bent his back and India have been rewarded.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 37 overs

    Buttler c Jadeja b Hardik 60 (Eng 199-7)

    Now Buttler has gone!

It is four wickets for Hardik Pandya as he again goes short and temps Buttler into the pull into the deep. It is a great catch from Ravindra Jadeja as he sprints from the deep square leg boundary to take a fine catch.

The India fans are jubilant and rightly so.
