That's almost a perfect delivery, it just didn't take the edge. It did too much.

Is there an edge? I think that's just a peach of a delivery to beat Elgar. It's fizzing here.
What a ball by James Anderson.
It is an absolute classic Anderson delivery as he squares Sarel Erwee up but somehow the ball misses his outside edge.
That has warmed the crowd up.
How did that not hit the stumps?!
Sarel Erwee tried to leave it but did not get his bat away in time and the ball hits the inside edge and narrowly misses his stumps.

That was a pearler of a delivery from Broad. Just around off stump, just that bit of deviation and extra bounce.

There is that bit of movement, it's well bowled but as a bowler you want to get the reward.
Ooh, that was a great delivery from Stuart Broad. There's a hint of movement off the pitch as he nearly tempts Dean Elgar into flashing outside off stump.
Elgar isn't tempted though. He is ready to dig in.

Potts gets his knee stuck in the turf. He's OK but that was a worrying sight for a moment.
Worrying moment for Matthew Potts as he attempts a knee slide while fielding on the outfield but his knee gets stuck and takes a big chunk out of the turf.
That could have been nasty but thankfully he is ok.
Mother of God...

Mark Burt: I’ve never seen an episode of Line of Duty or new Doctor Who. This revelation is usually accompanied by gasps.
This was absolutely textbook from Dean Elgar.

That's a much better line from Stuart Broad. I always believed if I could get the batter hitting towards mid off, I was in the game. That's the area Broad has just hit and where he'll want to settle in.
Better line from Stuart Broad as he tests Sarel Erwee's defences outside his off stump.
Speaking of Erwee. He has quite the story to tell, which you can read here.

Just a delicate flick from Erwee, all along the turf and he's off the mark.
Sarel Erwee is on his way. He clips a lovely shot off his pads and the ball races through the on side and down the slope for four.
Friends terribly unfunny? Could you BE any more wrong?
(I'm with you on Top Gun though. That also passed me by)

Scott Taylor: I've never seen Top Gun or The Lion King. Unfortunately, I was subjected to some Friends episodes - terribly unfunny...

You can see there is a change of strategy against Erwee. Against Elgar, Anderson was trying to take the ball away but with Erwee, he's trying to bring the ball back in to the pads.
