This is an inspired spell of bowling from Anrich Nortje. You have to wonder whether that short stuff bowled to him earlier has fired him up for this innings.

    Lees c Verreynne b Nortje 35 (Eng 86-5)

This is vintage stuff from Anrich Nortje.

He softens Alex Lees up with a 90mph bouncer that he ducks out of the way from. The next ball is on length snares the edge of Lees bat.

Nortje has a beaming smile on his face. This is potentially a match-winning spell.

Maharaj has got a nice loop, nice dip and he's not afraid to throw one up above the eyeline. He's canny, changes his pace and doesn't look to spin every ball. He's a bit of an old school type of spin bowler.

From the aggression of Keshav Maharaj to the trickery of Anrich Nortje. South Africa's attack seems to have it all

Ben Stokes gets off the mark with a single from a reverse sweep. Alex Lees then conventional sweep that brings three.

    Now, back to Anrich Nortje...

Jonathan France: The break from cricket that Jonny Bairstow took has done him no favours at all. Looks a shadow of the player he was during the NZ Test series.

Kevin Ticehurst: First major crisis in the new Bazball era. The honeymoon period is now over, let’s face it!

  7. Eng 82-3published at 25 overs

This is brilliant from Anrich Nortje.

He gives Ben Stokes a thorough examination with his first three balls, including a 95mph yorker and another that would have smashed the stumps into smithereens had it just been a bit straighter.

Dean Elgar gives Nortje a hug at the end of the over and understandably so.

This could get a bit tasty. Nortje has got great rhythm and the England skipper could cop a few.

Here comes Ben Stokes. This is going to be interesting.

Right skip, what have you got? Ben Stokes can make miracles happen but even he is up against it here.

Slightly tighter to the off stump and it's a brilliant delivery from Nortje. South Africa enjoyed that one.

That's a beauty, just sliding down the hill. A bit of away movement, pace and bounce. Look at the South Africa celebration. They are pumped.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24.3 overs

    Bairstow c Verreynne b Nortje 18 (Eng 81-4)

That is superb pace bowling by Anrich Nortje. He responds to getting hit for four by cranking it up to 95mph.

He gets one to fizz past Jonny Bairstow's outside edge, but the next ball is an absolute beauty as he feathers it through to Kyle Verreynne.

A brilliantly aggressive celebration from Nortje, too, He is pumped up and South Africa are scenting victory.

A bit of an ugly shot but it's effective.

A bit of width on offer and Bairstow carves it away. Do not bowl there to him.

  16. Eng 81-3published at 24.1 overs

If England are to get out of this hole Jonny Bairstow will lead the charge. He cuts Anrich Nortje away through the off side for another boundary.

We were just commenting earlier just how big that wicket of Joe Root is. It really knocks the stuffing out of England.

  18. Eng 77-3published at 24 overs

There's a hint of turn for Keshav Maharaj as Alex Lees attempts a reverse sweep that cannons off his hip.

Lees is looking to match the attacking intent of Jonny Bairstow but with mixed success so far.

We've seen it a lot from Bairstow, once he starts going, he doesn't stop. So just feed him and he might bite.

  20. Eng 75-3published at 23 overs

Great response from Anrich Nortje, who after being hit for four goes fuller next ball and tempts Jonny Bairstow into an attempted drive, but the ball fizzes past the outside edge.

    It is suddenly all happening.
