England would definitely have taken that at the start of the day's play. South Africa thought they were close with that review, but these two have been excellent for England. The tourists have a lot to do get back in this match. I think we'll see more spin this afternoon.

That's lunch. What should be the last ball of the session from Harmer is a horrible full toss that Foakes clubs away for four.
It's so high that it's called a no-ball in fact. Foakes blocks the extra delivery but England scored 101 runs in that morning session.
With only two wickets going down, it has been another good session for the hosts.
Time for one more over before lunch. Harmer will bowl it.

Suggestion for Ben Foakes: every time you hit a boundary, mutter "that's all, Foakes", then do the Bugs Bunny giggle. Bowlers will love it.
Ben in Deal.

Another lbw call comes a couple of balls later. This one doesn't turn and again hits the back leg. Maharaj indicates that he thinks it was too high and South Africa don't review. HawkEye shows it was much close than the first one, though. Umpire's call on hitting the stumps.
Foakes then gets off strike with a single before Stokes pushes elegantly through the covers for two.
We've just seen the ball-tracking all the way through. Not only was it pitching outside leg, it was missing off stump. A brilliant delivery but not much going for it as an lbw shout.
Eng 204-5
Pitched outside leg. It turned a fair amount so it would have been hard for it to pitch in line and hit the stumps.
So it proves. Ben Foakes survives but very good signs for the spinners.

Richard Illingworth has given it out. It's absolutely ragged. Was it pitching outside leg?
Eng 204-6
Has Keshav Maharaj struck first ball? He might well have done! Foakes props forward, the ball turns to beat the edge. Hits his back leg and up goes the umpire's finger.
After a chat with Stokes, Foakes calls for a review.
Maiden over from Harmer. Only that first ball really turned appreciably for the off-spinner but that will be firmly in the mind of Stokes and Foakes now.
We're going to get spin at both ends, too. Keshav Maharaj will bowl the next.

That's absolutely kicked, spun and gone quickly off the pitch for Simon Harmer.
Big smile from Simon Harmer as he gets one to turn and bounce sharply to Stokes. It's done far too much for the edge to come into play. Still, that is a sign of what is to come over the next couple of days.

South Africa must be getting a bit fidgety. They will believe if they can break this partnership that they can knock over England's lower order, but that lead is climbing at the moment.

Another single for Foakes and this one takes England's lead to 50. Cue a bit more applause from the crowd.
Rabada then drops short and offers Stokes some width. The England skipper thrashes the ball away through the covers but there is a fielder sweeping out there and he keeps it to two.
With 10 minutes to lunch, South Africa will feel they need a wicket - and sharpish.
Lead by 49
Another tidy over from Harmer but, after five dot balls, Foakes turns the ball to leg for one and that brings up the 200 for England.
Polite applause from the Old Trafford crowd for that milestone.
Lead by 48
England are ticking along but Rabada is making sure they aren't able to progress too quickly. Just a pair of singles from the over with the fast bowler holding a tight line around off stump.

Former England spinner on BBC Two
A fantastic developing between these two which is inching England to a position of domination. Ben Stokes has been considered, calm and collected. They are doing nicely at the moment, and will not want to give it away just before lunch.

MarkyBoy: Foakes is England's best player of spin after Root.
Not many have turned big for Harmer this morning but he gets one to go sharply to Foakes. The ball takes the inside edge but goes into the right-hander's midriff and drops safely to the ground.
Maiden over. It's been tricky to bat at various spells in this innings but they're still going along at just shy of four-an-over.
